In situ experimental study on the effect of mixed inhibitors on the phase equilibrium of carbon dioxide hydrate

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of mixed inhibitors comprising electrolytes and alcohols on the thermodynamic properties of CO2 hydrate. Experimental results showed that the inhibition strength of the mixed inhibitor is significantly enhanced, sometimes even greater than the sum of its components, due to a synergistic effect. An improved vdWP model was proposed based on the results to predict hydrate stability conditions in CO2H2O-inhibitor solutions.

Dissociation characteristic of methane hydrate in clayey silt below the ice point

Pengyu Zhang et al.

Summary: As an important clean energy resource, natural gas hydrates (NGHs) have attracted considerable research interest. In this study, the dissociation characteristics of methane hydrate in clayey-silt samples at negative temperatures were tested. The results showed that methane hydrate had a low dissociation rate in the clayey-silt samples between 243 K and 253 K. The stability of methane hydrate in clayey-silt under negative temperatures has great potential application value in the field of gas storage.

Ice behaviors and heat transfer characteristics during the isothermal production process of methane hydrate reservoirs by depressurization

Mingjun Yang et al.

Summary: By adjusting the reservoir temperature and production pressure, the production process of methane hydrate and the behavior of ice can be controlled, thereby affecting the dissociation rate of hydrates. Higher production pressures can prevent the formation of ice, and both the melting of ice and the dissociation of hydrates are influenced by heat supply.

How methane release may affect carbon dioxide storage during replacement processes in natural gas hydrate reservoirs

Alberto Maria Gambelli et al.

Summary: In natural gas hydrate reservoirs, methane replacement with carbon dioxide molecules can occur through initial dissociation or direct exchange. Experimental results show that concentration can modify the formation trend, particularly in terms of carbon storage.

Simplified diffusion model of gas hydrate formation from ice

Valeriy A. Vlasov

Summary: A kinetic model of gas hydrate formation from ice is presented, showing that the rate of methane hydrate formation from ice is influenced by temperature and methane pressure. It was also found that the gas hydrate formed from ice does not have a porous structure.

An experimental description of the double positive effect of CO2 injection in methane hydrate deposits in terms of climate change mitigation

Alberto Maria Gambelli

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of injecting CO2 into a hydrate reservoir to prevent methane release. Results show that CO2 is capable of forming a strong hydrate shell around the methane core, preventing its dissociation, leading to both CO2 permanent storage and the prevention of methane release into the atmosphere.
