Partitioning of a wide bubbling fluidized bed with vertical internals to improve local mixing and bed material circulation

Antonio Soria-Verdugo et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of vertical internals to partition wide beds in industrial scale fluidized bed reactors in order to improve local mixing. Experimental results show that vertical internals have a significant improvement on local solids mixing, while global mixing remains unaffected by the presence of internals.

Enhanced fluidization of solid particles in an oscillating acoustic field

Xuan Xu et al.

Summary: The fluidization quality of solid particles can be effectively improved by vibration induced by appropriate acoustic fields compared with an ordinary fluidized bed. The hydrodynamic behavior of the fluidized bed is influenced by the intensity and frequency of the acoustic fields, with increasing sound pressure level leading to a more significant perturbation effect on fixed-bed pressure drop. The minimum fluidization velocity in the bed decreases gradually with the increase in the ratio of bed height to bed diameter, except for a particular frequency. The rising velocity of the bubble and the average overflow velocity of residual gas in collapse tests are reduced by the acoustic field.

The process optimization for separation performance and fluidization stability based on air dense-medium fluidized bed

Chen Zengqiang et al.

Summary: Dry mineral separation methods are based on the pseudo-fluid properties of two-phase gas-solid fluidization in the air dense medium fluidized bed separation. The air dense medium fluidized bed method was introduced for coal deashing. The optimization of factors like fluidization number, height-to-diameter ratio, and feeding volume fraction showed that the fluidization number was the main factor affecting the separation characteristics. Separation efficiency reached optimal values when the feeding volume fraction was at 13%. The dense medium fluidized bed achieved efficient deashing of coal with a yield of 78.5-80% and ash content reduction of 75-78%.

Fluidization and separation characteristics of a gas?solid separation fluidized bed in the presence of an acoustic field

Xuan Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the bed fluidization characteristics were examined in the presence and absence of an acoustic field. The results showed that the introduction of an acoustic wave can improve the stability of bed density and enhance the separation performance of a gas-solid separation fluidized bed with lower error probability.

Effects of internals and distributors on the distribution and growth of bubbles in the conventional gas-solid fluidized bed

Haidong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of internals and gas distributors on the local dynamics of bubbles in conventional gas-solid fluidized beds. It was found that smaller bubbles were generated with the installation of internals or the use of a sintered plate, resulting in lower pressure drops and higher bed expansion. Internals with reduced opening area or distributors with smaller pore size led to a higher changeover rate between bubbles and the dense phase, allowing for better gas-solid contact and an earlier transition to the turbulent flow regime.

Effect of agitation on hydrodynamics and separation performance of gas-solid separation fluidized bed

Bo Lv et al.

Summary: This study explores the effect of agitation on the fluidization characteristics and separation effect of a gas-solid separation fluidized bed. The fluidized bed under mechanical agitation was simulated, and a symmetrical motion pattern of the bed particles was identified. Under appropriate operating conditions, the fluidization quality improved gradually and the raw coal was separated effectively.
