Health Risk-Oriented Source Apportionment of Hazardous Volatile Organic Compounds in Eight Canadian Cities and Implications for Prioritizing Mitigation Strategies

Ying Xiong et al.

Summary: Traditionally, environmental authorities make regulatory policies for controlling VOC pollution based on the mitigation of dominant VOC sources. However, without quantitatively assessing the health risk associated with each source, the effectiveness of the mitigation policy could be undermined. To address this, a new health risk-oriented source apportionment method was developed to provide quantitative health risk assessment and source-specific mitigation strategies.

Fate of Oxygenated Volatile Organic Compounds in the Yangtze River Delta Region: Source Contributions and Impacts on the Atmospheric Oxidation Capacity

Jingyi Li et al.

Summary: The sources and sinks of oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs) in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region during a high O-3 and high PM2.5 season were investigated using the Community Multiscale Air Quality model (CMAQv5.2). The model showed that OVOCs, dominated by ketones, aldehydes, and alcohols, mainly originate from direct emissions and secondary formation. The concentration of secondary organic aerosols (SOA) produced by OVOCs significantly influences aerosols and ozone levels.
