A sensitive and accurate fluorescent genosensor for Staphylococcus aureus detection

Rui Liu et al.

Summary: A fluorescent genosensor was developed for Staphylococcus aureus detection, utilizing interactions between specific single-stranded DNA and graphene oxide quantum dots for sensitive detection. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity with a LOD of 0.98 x 10(-17) mol L-1 and was successfully applied for real sample analysis. Additionally, the sensor could be adapted for the detection of other pathogens by replacing recognition probes and primers.

In vitro evaluation of novel titania-containing borate bioactive glass scaffolds

Romina Shafaghi et al.

Summary: The study prepared titanium-containing borate bioactive glass scaffolds with different compositions and evaluated their potential in addressing bone loss in revision total knee arthroplasty. In vitro results demonstrated that BRT3 scaffolds showed significant bactericidal effects and promoted well-spread cells on the surface, suggesting their potential as a promising candidate for bone loss applications. Further in vivo studies are needed to assess the response of cells and tissue to these scaffolds in a dynamic environment.

An Ultralocalized Cas13a Assay Enables Universal and Nucleic Acid Amplification-Free Single-Molecule RNA Diagnostics

Tian Tian et al.

Summary: The confinement effect-inspired Cas13a assay for single-molecule RNA diagnostics eliminates the need for nucleic acid amplification and reverse transcription, achieving a >10,000-fold enhancement in sensitivity and enabling absolute digital single-molecule RNA quantitation. Its broad applicability and accurate detection of various RNA molecules at the single-molecule level make it a potential dominant rival to RT-qPCR.

Biofilm formation of Staphylococcus epidermidis imaged using atmospheric scanning electron microscopy

Chisato Takahashi et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus epidermidis, a gram-positive bacterium, plays an important role in biofilm formation and microvesicle secretion. This study successfully imaged the microvesicles secreted by Staphylococcus epidermidis and their integration into biofilms using atmospheric scanning electron microscopy (ASEM). The information obtained is expected to help elucidate the biological mechanism of biofilm formation and develop medicines against biofilms and associated infections.

Enzyme-free and label-free detection of Staphylococcus aureus based on target-inhibited fluorescence signal recovery

Shuo Yao et al.

Summary: A one-step fluorometric strategy based on nanometal surface energy transfer was developed for facile detection of Staphylococcus aureus. The method controlled the fluorescence signal through nucleic acid hybridization and competitive binding of aptamer, resulting in improved detection limit and linear range for S. aureus. This enzyme-free and label-free strategy shows promise for sensitive and selective S. aureus detection.
