Liwei Dong et al.

Summary: Research focused on designing a sulfone-based electrolyte to enhance the cyclability of high-voltage lithium metal batteries, where the TMS solvent tends to aggressive cathodes and the FEC solvent approaches the Li anode. The sulfone electrolyte forms ultra-thin fluorine and sulfur-rich interphases, which promotes uniform in-plane Li+ transfer and mitigates transition metal dissolution.

Li2CO3/LiF-Rich Heterostructured Solid Electrolyte Interphase with Superior Lithiophilic and Li+-Transferred Characteristics via Adjusting Electrolyte Additives

Daxiong Wu et al.

Summary: This study successfully realizes a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) with the properties of Li2CO3-rich and LiF-rich types by using different fluorine phenylphospines. The SEI formed in the presence of tris(4-fluorophenyl)phosphine (TFPP) has a balanced Li+ transport kinetics, good electron insulator capability, and strong affinity toward Li+. It effectively guarantees fast and uniform Li+ flux while preventing electron penetration, resulting in stable Li plating/stripping and excellent performance of Li-ion batteries.

Spinel-related Li2Ni0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode for 5-V anode-free lithium metal batteries

Liangdon Lin et al.

Summary: This study proposes using a Li-rich cathode, Li2Ni0.5Mn1.5O4, as a replacement for the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode in anode-free lithium metal batteries. The Li-rich cathode can release a large amount of Li ions during the first charge to extend the battery's lifespan without introducing inactive components. Experimental results show that the anode-free battery with a Li-rich cathode maintains high energy density and capacity retention after 50 cycles.
