Catalyst-free activation of CH4 and air into platform chemicals and H2 using parametrized nanosecond pulsed plasma

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: This study reports a promising plasma approach for the catalysis-free partial oxidation of CH4 to produce hydrogen and value-added oxygenates. The ratios of air and Ar are found to be the main factors in controlling oxidation depth and liquid selectivity. The pulsed parameters also affect the reactant conversion and product distribution. The proper CH4/air/Ar ratio significantly improves the energy efficiency and H2O2 addition promotes CH3OH selectivity.

Plasma-Catalytic Methanol Synthesis from CO2 Hydrogenation over a Supported Cu Cluster Catalyst: Insights into the Reaction Mechanism

Zhaolun Cui et al.

Summary: Plasma-catalytic CO2 hydrogenation for methanol production was studied using a combination of experimental and computational methods. Results showed a synergistic effect between the Cu/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst and CO2/H2 plasma, with enhanced methanol selectivity achieved through the addition of H2O. Computational calculations revealed the bifunctional effect of Cu-13/gamma-Al2O3 interface sites in activating CO2 molecules and promoting hydrogenation of key intermediates. This study provides new insights into the mechanism of CO2 hydrogenation through plasma catalysis, and offers inspiration for the conversion of other small molecules using supported-metal clusters.

Shielding Protection by Mesoporous Catalysts for Improving Plasma-Catalytic Ambient Ammonia Synthesis

Yaolin Wang et al.

Summary: Plasma catalysis holds promise for decentralized NH3 synthesis using renewable energy, with a bespoke design of supported Ni catalysts showing potential for efficient NH3 production. By depositing Ni active sites on the surface of mesoporous MCM-41, it enhances plasma-catalyst interactions and shields NH3 from decomposition, driving the reaction forward effectively. This demonstrates the importance of rational catalyst design for improving plasma-catalytic processes.

Pulsed discharge plasma induced hydrogenation of aromatic compound in heavy oil: Reaction mechanism upon impact by operating conditions

Yadi Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a new approach to in-situ hydrogenation of ethylbenzene using pulsed dielectric barrier discharge plasma. The results show that a higher H density promotes the hydrogenation of the aromatic ring, and the average H number added to the aromatic ring increases with the pulse repetition frequency. However, the presence of high-energy electrons inhibits the hydrogenation process at high temperatures. Therefore, higher pulse repetition frequency, appropriate voltage amplitude, and lower temperature are crucial for ensuring the hydrogenation process.

Sustainable plasma-catalytic bubbles for hydrogen peroxide synthesis

Renwu Zhou et al.

Summary: The argon plasma-catalytic bubble process efficiently synthesizes H2O2 underwater using water as a reactant and solar radiation as the energy source. The principal route of H2O2 generation is the combination of dissolved (OH)-O-center dot radicals at the plasma-liquid interface of forming bubbles. Employing dual reactors and a strongly interfacial-coupled photocatalyst leads to high H2O2 production rate and energy efficiency.
