Granular activated carbon (GAC) fixed bed adsorption combined with ultrafiltration for shale gas wastewater internal reuse

Jiaxin Liang et al.

Summary: This study proposed the use of fixed bed adsorption using granular activated carbon (GAC) combined with ultrafiltration (UF) for the treatment of shale gas flowback and produced water (SGFPW). The results showed that GAC fixed bed effectively removed dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and turbidity, mitigating membrane fouling. The integrated GAC fixed bed-UF process produced high-quality effluents that met water quality standards, making it an effective technology for SGFPW reuse.

Green aerogel adsorbent for removal of organic compounds in shale gas wastewater: High-performance tuning and adsorption mechanism

Yuanhui Liu et al.

Summary: The study focused on improving the adsorption performance of porous biochar aerogel (PBA) for removing organic compounds from shale gas flowback and produced water (SGFPW). By optimizing the tuning of PBAs, a high adsorption removal rate and capacity were achieved, surpassing other carbon adsorbents for SGFPW treatment. Analysis of organic compound characterization and PBAs' physicochemical properties revealed an efficient adsorption mechanism based on electron-donor-acceptor interaction, hydrophobic effect, and hydrogen-bond formation.

Fabrication of a CO2-responsive chitosan aerogel as an effective adsorbent for the adsorption and desorption of heavy metal ions

Songlin Fan et al.

Summary: A novel CO2-responsive chitosan aerogel was synthesized for the adsorption of Cu2+. Compared to traditional methods, this aerogel showed significantly increased adsorption capacity and mechanical properties. It could efficiently desorb Cu2+ through CO2 bubbling, making it an environmentally friendly option for metal ion adsorption and recovery.

Investigation of the removal and recovery of nitrate by an amine-enriched composite under different fixed-bed column conditions

Ali Ansari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the continuous adsorption of nitrate using an amine-rich polymer composite adsorbent in a fixed-bed column, finding that the adsorption capacity was influenced by flow rate, influent concentration, and bed height. The highest adsorption capacity was achieved at the lowest flow rate and highest influent concentration and bed height.
