High-efficient production of fatty alcohol via hydrogenation of fatty acid over Cu-NbOx/SBA-15 catalyst

Shenzhi Yue et al.

Summary: Cu/SBA-15 and Cu-NbOx/SBA-15 catalysts were prepared and evaluated for the hydrogenation of palmitic acid to palmitic alcohol. The symbiotic effect between Cu and NbOx was studied and it was found that NbOx plays a crucial role in catalytic activity. The interaction between Cu species and the NbOx-containing support was investigated and the factors affecting catalytic activity were discussed. A high yield of palmitic alcohol was obtained using palm oil as feedstock.

Selective hydrodeoxygenation of biomass pyrolysis oil and lignin-derived oxygenates to cyclic alcohols using the bimetallic NiFe core-shell supported on TiO2

Rizki Insyani et al.

Summary: TiO(2-) supported Ni catalysts show promise for biomass valorization through selective hydrodeoxygenation (HDO). Their catalytic activity can be tuned by controlling the metal-support interaction (SMSI). The prepared catalysts can effectively convert lignin-derived compounds into cyclic alcohols.

Fabrication of a NiFe Alloy Oxide Catalyst via Surface Reconstruction for Selective Hydrodeoxygenation of Fatty Acid to Fatty Alcohol

Depeng Han et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel NiFe alloy oxide catalyst (NiFe AOC) that effectively suppresses the adsorption of aldehyde, leading to improved alcohol selectivity and yield in the hydrodeoxygenation of fatty acids. NiFe AOC demonstrates inhibition of the conversion of objective product alcohol into alkane, with increased activation energy for side reactions compared to NiFe AC.

Catalytic waste Kraft lignin hydrodeoxygenation to liquid fuels over a hollow Ni-Fe catalyst

Xiaomeng Dou et al.

Summary: The depolymerization and demethoxylation of Kraft lignin (KL) was achieved using a novel H-NiFe2O4 catalyst under mild conditions, with high liquid product yield and minimal coke yield. The catalytic performance of H-NiFe2O4 benefits from the synergy of Ni and Fe, promoting lignin depolymerization while suppressing condensation reactions. Plausible reaction pathways of KL depolymerization over H-NiFe2O4 are discussed, demonstrating the potential of this catalytic system for efficient conversion of KL into liquid fuels.

Heterogeneous Ni and MoOx co-loaded CeO2 catalyst for the hydrogenation of fatty acids to fatty alcohols under mild reaction conditions

Xincheng Cao et al.

Summary: The MoOx modified Ni/CeO2 catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance in converting fatty acids into alcohols under mild reaction conditions. NiMoO4 was identified as the main active phase in the bimetallic catalyst, with electronic interaction between Ni and MoOx providing synergistic catalysis sites. The introduction of Mo species also provided oxygen vacancy sites for fatty acid adsorption, contributing to high conversion activity.

Strong Metal-Support Interactions between Nickel and Iron Oxide during CO2 Hydrogenation

Xiaohan Yuan et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates a series of nickel-iron-based bimetallic catalysts to unveil the nature of active sites for the CO2 hydrogenation reaction, revealing an environmental-sensitive strong metal-support interaction between Ni nanoparticles and iron oxides. Iron oxides migrate and entirely cover the metallic Ni nanoparticles during the reaction, yielding a more active core-shell-type structure with much-improved reducibility, a process indirectly monitored in a time-resolved manner by in situ DRIFTS and confirmed to complete within 30 min of the reaction.
