Self-Propelled Nanodroplet Jumping Enhanced by Nanocone Arrays: Implications for Self-Cleaning and Anti-Icing Surfaces

Hongru Ren et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the enhancement of self-propelled jumping of nanodroplets on hydrophobic surfaces using properly designed nanocone arrays. It was found that the shape of nanocones and the initial position of nanodroplets significantly affect the jumping velocity. High-efficiency self-jumping behaviors of nanodroplets are achieved by minimizing energy dissipation, providing potential applications for controllable droplet movement on functional surfaces.

Tip-Enhanced Electric Field: A New Mechanism Promoting Mass Transfer in Oxygen Evolution Reactions

Peng Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, NiFe alloy nanocone arrays were used to enhance the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) rate and outperform state-of-the-art OER electrocatalysts. The high-curvature tips on the nanocones induce a local electric field that significantly increases the concentration of hydroxide ions near the active sites, promoting OER activity. This local field enhanced OER kinetics is suggested to be a generic effect applicable to other OER catalysts.

Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to CO on Hydrophobic Zn Foam Rod in a Microchannel Electrochemical Reactor

Chunxiao Zhang et al.

Summary: By introducing a zinc myristate hydrophobic layer on the surface of zinc foam electrode, high Faradaic efficiency (FE) for CO production was achieved at high potentials, reaching 91.8% at -1.9 V vs. SCE. The high roughness of the hydrophobic layer increased the active surface area and CO2 mass transfer performance, demonstrating the effectiveness of adding a hydrophobic layer on the catalyst surface to enhance the electrochemical CO2 reduction performance.
