Divergent Metabolic Effects of Metformin Merge to Enhance Eicosapentaenoic Acid Metabolism and Inhibit Ovarian Cancer In Vivo

Mary P. Udumula et al.

Summary: This study found that metformin treatment can promote omega-3 fatty acid metabolism and inhibit inflammatory signaling in ovarian cancer cells, providing an additional potential therapeutic mechanism for the anticancer effects of metformin.

The Apoptotic Resistance of BRCA1-Deficient Ovarian Cancer Cells is Mediated by cAMP

Wei Yue et al.

Summary: BRCA1 deficiency activates the cAMP signaling pathway and leads to apoptotic resistance in ovarian cancer cells. This study reveals a novel mechanism of apoptotic resistance and suggests a potential strategy for treating BRCA1-mutated tumors using ADRBI inhibition to kill cancer cells.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Emerging Roles for Ion Channels in Ovarian Cancer: Pathomechanisms and Pharmacological Treatment

Concetta Altamura et al.

Summary: Ion channels contribute significantly to the development and progression of ovarian cancer (OC) and may serve as potential targets for treatment. Overexpression of voltage-gated and epithelial sodium channels is associated with cancer proliferation and invasion, while potassium, calcium, chloride, and transient receptor potential channels play critical roles in OC by affecting cell cycle, apoptosis, and drug sensitivity. Understanding the expression and function of ion channels in OC can provide insights for tumor diagnosis and treatment.
