Magnetite-Free Sn-Doped Hematite Nanoflake Layers for Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Hyo-Jin Ahn et al.

Summary: In this study, a preparation strategy for hematite phase-pure photoanodes was reported. The strategy involved a two-step annealing process to obtain high density hematite ultrathin nanoflakes and convert undesired iron oxide phases to a photoactive hematite layer. SnCl4 doping was also used to enhance the conductivity. The optimized photoanodes showed an approximately 11-fold increase in photocurrent density compared to the reference hematite photoanodes.

Hierarchically devising NiFeOxHy catalyst with surface Fe active sites for efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Rong Wang et al.

Summary: The introduction of Fe species into the Ni metal framework greatly enhanced the activity of the NiFeOxHy electrode for oxygen evolution. This led to the formation of a heterostructure composed of an OER-active NiFe (oxy)hydroxide shell and an electron-conductive Ni core, resulting in improved intrinsic activity, active sites, and charge-transfer ability for efficient OER process.
