CO2 Activation and Hydrogenation on Cu-ZnO/Al2O3 Nanorod Catalysts: An In Situ FTIR Study

Letian Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on using CuZnO/Al2O3 catalyst for the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol, revealing the essential synergistic interaction between Cu and ZnO in increasing methanol production rate. In situ DRIFT spectroscopy shows that Cu facilitates H-2 dissociation while ZnO improves CO2 adsorption.

Differences in Deterioration Behaviors of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 Catalysts with Different Cu Contents toward Hydrogenation of CO and CO2

Tanutporn Kamsuwan et al.

Summary: The deterioration behaviors of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts with different Cu contents were investigated. It was found that the unstable Cu0 site on the spent catalyst with low Cu loading was oxidized and aggregated, while the amount of carbon deposition on the spent catalyst with high Cu loading was lower. These phenomena led to a decrease in the surface area and the blockage of active sites.

Summary: This study focused on the design and performance of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts, finding that the catalyst derived from highly zinc-substituted malachite exhibited the best catalytic performance. The research also revealed the copper specific surface area and exposed copper concentration of the catalyst, as well as the Cu/ZnO synergy.

Summary: In this study, Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 (CZA) catalysts with different Cu loadings were prepared using the co-precipitation method and tested for methanol production in CO and CO2 hydrogenation reactions. The high Cu loading CZA catalyst exhibited enhanced structural and physical properties, resulting in higher conversion rates of CO and CO2.

Summary: The study found that Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 and CuZn/SiO2 exhibit similar activity and methanol selectivity, but the methanol yield decreases with time on stream for the latter sample. X-ray absorption spectroscopy data during operation show the formation of a ZnO-rich shell on CuZn/SiO2, indicating the beneficial effect of even diluted Zn.

Reaction Path Analysis of CO2 Reduction to Methanol through Multisite Microkinetic Modelling over Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 Catalysts

Anze Prasnikar et al.

Summary: The changing hierarchical structure of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 material during methanol synthesis reactions affects process optimization, and activity is closely related to Cu-Zn interactions. Experimental data obtained from catalytic reactor tests show that increasing ZnOX coverage does not significantly affect rate law, while not all ZnOX over-layer is catalytically active. The presence of highly-dispersed Al2O3 in Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 with ZnOX over 7% decreases intrinsic kinetics of the Cu-Zn site.

CO2 hydrogenation to methanol over partially embedded Cu within Zn-Al oxide and the effect of indium

Kristian Stangeland et al.

Summary: Developing effective catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol is crucial for improving green synthesis of fuels and chemicals. Optimizing Cu dispersion enhances catalytic activity, while the nature of the Cu-ZnO interface also impacts catalytic properties. Using hydrotalcite-derived Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts can result in enhanced intrinsic activity and methanol selectivity, with the decrease in interfacial area identified as a deactivation mechanism. The addition of In in Cu/ZnO-based catalysts decreases activity but increases methanol selectivity and stabilizes Cu particles and the Zn-Al mixed oxide phase.
