Recent development in catalyst and reactor design for CO2 reforming of alcohols to syngas: A review

Nornasuha Abdullah et al.

Summary: Global energy demand has a significant impact on GHGs emissions, and catalytic conversion of biomass-derived alcohols into syngas is a viable option for reducing GHGs. However, research in this field is limited, and the high reaction temperature poses a major challenge in the CO2 reforming process.

Understanding the Impact of Hydrogen Activation by SrCe0.8Zr0.2O3-δ Perovskite Membrane Material on Direct Non-Oxidative Methane Conversion

Sichao Cheng et al.

Summary: This work investigates the impact of hydrogen activation by hydrogen-permeable SrCe0.8Zr0.2O3-delta (SCZO) perovskite oxide material on Direct Non-Oxidative Methane Conversion (DNMC). The study finds that SCZO can activate H-2 and promote coke formation on the catalyst, leading to stable and high methane conversion with low coke selectivity in DNMC. Additionally, SCZO can absorb H-2 to lower its local concentration, mitigating the reverse reaction of DNMC. These findings provide mechanistic understanding and guidance for the design of H-2-permeable membrane reactors for DNMC and other alkane dehydrogenation reactions.

Characterization and catalytic activity of soft-templated NiO-CeO2 mixed oxides for CO and CO2 co-methanation

Luciano Atzori et al.

Summary: Nanosized NiO, CeO(2)and NiO-CeO(2)mixed oxides were prepared using the soft template method, resulting in nanocrystals of about 4 nm in size regardless of the Ni/Ce molar ratio. Defective sites were formed at the NiO-CeO(2)interface, with strong interaction between Ni species and the support, and CeO(2) showed effective adsorption of CO2. The NiCe system showed promising catalytic performance in CO(x)co-methanation reaction under various conditions and remained stable after thermal stress for up to 50 hours, indicating potential for practical applications.

Role of lattice oxygen in methane activation on Ni-phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 core-shell catalyst for methane dry reforming: Zr doping effect, mechanism, and kinetic study

Sonali Das et al.

Summary: Sandwich structured core-shell Ni-Phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 catalysts with optimal Zr loading in the Ce1-xZrxO2 shell are found to greatly enhance the intrinsic activity for DRM due to increased lattice oxygen mobility of the ceria-zirconia shell and stronger metal-support interaction with Ni. Involvement of lattice oxygen in methane activation and dissociation contributes to the higher DRM activity of the Zr-doped catalyst with maximum oxygen storage capacity, as inferred from rigorous kinetic and mechanism studies.

Novel highly dispersed Ni-based oxides catalysts for ethanol steam reforming

Xia An et al.

Summary: In this study, high-performance Ethanol Steam Reforming (ESR) catalyst was prepared by adding copper and magnesium into NiAl Layered Double Hydroxides (NiAl-LDHs) using the coprecipitation method. The addition of Cu metal increased ethanol conversion rate and Mg helped neutralize acid sites, preventing the production of ethylene as a dehydration product. Through catalyst composition and structure optimization, the ethanol was completely converted and stable hydrogen production was achieved in a 19-hour test.
