Social Force Model parameter testing and optimization using a high stress real-life situation

I. M. Sticco et al.

Summary: The escape panic version of the Social Force Model (SFM) is effective for emergency evacuations, with significant differences found in pedestrian flow compared to laboratory conditions. Parameter calibrations from laboratory experiments may lead to faster evacuation simulations. Optimization of two model parameters can replicate the behavior of empirical evacuation curves.

Lorentzian geometry and variability reduction in airplane boarding: Slow passengers first outperforms random boarding

Sveinung Erland et al.

Summary: Airlines use different boarding policies to improve passenger boarding efficiency. Research shows that separating slow passengers from fast passengers and allowing the slow group to board first can significantly reduce total boarding time, a universal result with various parameter combinations.
