Comment on A new class of out-gap discrete solitons in binary waveguide arrays [Chaos 32, 073113 (2022)]

Magnus Johansson

Summary: The recent research findings are compared with earlier work, and two new families of beyond-band discrete solitons are discovered, which are smooth continuations of on-top breathers briefly mentioned by Gorbach and Johansson as well as Johansson and Gorbach, and the corresponding bifurcation scenarios are described. It is found that one family is linearly unstable due to symmetry-breaking oscillations.

A new class of out-gap discrete solitons in binary waveguide arrays

Minh C. Tran et al.

Summary: This study investigates beyond-band discrete solitons in a periodic binary waveguide array, which exhibit stable localized solitons beyond the linear plane waves in two bands. The even and odd components of these solitons do not change sign across the transverse direction and can be approximated by hyperbolic secant functions. These newly found solitons exhibit detunings that can asymptotically reach the limits of a linear spectrum in low-intensity regime.

Optical analogs of pair production and annihilation in binary waveguide arrays with a curved section

Truong X. Tran et al.

Summary: In this paper, we simulate the optical analogs of the relativistic quantum electron-positron dynamic pair production and annihilation processes in a binary waveguide array consisting of straight and curved sections. The results show excellent agreement between the discrete model based on binary waveguide arrays and the truly continuous Dirac equation in quantum field theory, in terms of the probabilities of these two processes.

Inverse Klein tunneling effect in binary waveguide arrays

Minh C. Tran et al.

Summary: In this study, the optical analog of the inverse Klein tunneling effect is systematically investigated using Dirac solitons in binary waveguide arrays. The theoretical results are validated through numerical simulations, confirming the accuracy of the proposed model for inverse Klein tunneling in binary waveguide arrays. Important relationships between the transmission coefficients of the inverse Klein tunneling effect and the Klein tunneling effect are also provided.
