Comprehensive investigation on multifunctional properties of zirconium and silver co-substituted 58S bioactive glass

Mohammadamin Zohourfazeli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the simultaneous effect of zirconium (Zr) and silver (Ag) on co-substituted 58S bioactive glass. The results showed that the specimen containing 5% fixed Zr and 4% Ag exhibited better in vitro biological performance compared to other samples.

Summary: The study demonstrated that increasing the content of cerium-doped bioactive glass improved the cytocompatibility and cell attachment of the scaffolds, although excessively high ratios decreased wettability. Increasing the weight ratio of cerium-doped bioactive glass up to 40% was effective for soft tissue engineering applications.

Gelatin/bioactive glass composite scaffold for promoting the migration and odontogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

Guibin Huang et al.

Summary: Recruiting periapical stem cells and inducing their odontogenic differentiation are crucial for pulp regeneration. A bioactive composite scaffold (G/PSC scaffold) combining bioactive glass and gelatin showed enhanced resistance to hydrolysis and promoted chemotaxis, proliferation, and odontogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. This scaffold holds promise for pulp regeneration.

Preparation, characterization and in vitro biological response of simultaneous co-substitution of Zr+4/Sr+2 58S bioactive glass powder

Amirhossein Moghanian et al.

Summary: The study modified the structure of zirconium-containing bioactive glass by incorporating strontium, resulting in the formation of hydroxyapatite in simulated body fluid. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the synthesized bioactive glasses significantly promoted proliferation and viability of osteoblast-like cells, and showed good antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. These findings were confirmed by cell staining techniques, showing increased live cells and decreased dead cells after co-culturing with the bioactive glasses.

Synthesis, characterization and in vitro biological properties of simultaneous co-substituted Ti+4/Li+1 58s bioactive glass

Amirhossein Moghanian et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of simultaneous substitution of titanium (Ti) and lithium (Li) on sol-gel derived 58S silicate BGs. The TL-5 containing 5 mol% TiO2 and 5 mol% Li2O showed better in vitro bioactivity and higher biocompatibility, antibacterial properties, maximum cell proliferation, and ALP activity. Increasing the Li2O content to 10 mol% led to a sharp decrease in hydroxyapatite growth rate and grains size.
