A hyperbranched P/N/B-containing oligomer as multifunctional flame retardant for epoxy resins

Siqi Huo et al.

Summary: This study presents an effective method to create transparent epoxy thermosets with outstanding mechanical, dielectric, and fire-retardant properties by incorporating a P/N/B-containing hyperbranched oligomer. The addition of the hyperbranched additive improves the glass-transition temperature, optical transmittance, mechanical strength, and toughness of the epoxy resin, while reducing the dielectric constant, loss, heat release, and smoke generation during combustion. These findings have significant implications for the development of high-performance flame-retardant epoxy resins.

Chitosan/sodium polyborate based micro-nano coating with high flame retardancy and superhydrophobicity for cotton fabric

Peng Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, a sustainable flame retardant and superhydrophobic cotton fabric was prepared using chitosan and sodium polyborate treatment, followed by PDMS treatment. The fabric demonstrated enhanced flame retardancy and superhydrophobic properties, as well as anti-sticking, self-cleaning, and oil/water-separating capabilities. This coating method, free from F, Cl, Br, and P elements, is considered a clean approach for producing functional cotton fabrics.

Eco-friendly flame retardant and smoke suppression coating containing boron compounds and phytic acids for nylon/cotton blend fabrics

Jian Liu et al.

Summary: This study improves the flame retardancy of nylon/cotton blend fabrics by using a bio-based boron contained flame retardant (PBN) and phytic acids. The presence of PBN significantly reduces the flammability of the fabric and accelerates the formation of char residue, while the release of inert gases dilutes the combustible gases.

Synthesis and characterization of amino-terminated phosphorous polyborosiloxane and its effect on flame retardancy of polymethacrylimide

Y. Dong et al.

Summary: A novel flame retardant, amino-terminated phosphorous polyborosiloxane (N-PBSi), was synthesized and characterized to contain flame-retardant elements like P, B, and Si. The N-PBSi showed desirable thermal stability, and optimization of synthesis conditions led to better quality and higher yield flame retardants. The N-PBSi significantly enhanced the flame-retardant properties of polymethacrylimide (PMI), making it a promising reactive flame retardant for PMI.
