This paper introduces the advantages of nanocellulose derived from lignocellulose materials, such as high strength, lightweight, biodegradability, and renewability. Due to the complex and dense cell wall structure and poor solubility in water and most solvents, lignocellulose materials are difficult to dissolve directly and utilize effectively in practical production. The pretreatment technology is discussed, which exposes the amorphous areas, eliminates unnecessary non-cellulose components, and facilitates the subsequent applications. Traditional and green solvents used in the pretreatment of lignocellulose materials, as well as their mechanisms, advantages, and disadvantages, are introduced. Furthermore, the mechanism, process, advantages, and potential applications of deep eutectic solvent as a pretreatment solvent are discussed, along with suggestions for the future use of green solvents in treating lignocellulose materials.
Nanocellulose converted from lignocellulose materials has many advantages, such as high strength, lightweight, biodegradability, and renewability. Lignocellulose materials are difficult to dissolve directly and are utilize effectively in practical production because of their complex and dense cell wall structure and poor solubility in water and most solvents. Pretreatment technology is the preparation before processing. Pretreatment of lignocellulose materials can expose their amorphous areas, eliminate unnecessary non cellulose components, and facilitate their subsequent applications. In this paper, some traditional and green solvents used in the pretreatment of lignocellulose materials are introduced, as well as the mechanism, advantages, and disadvantages of some pretreatment technology. The mechanism, process, advantages, and potential applications of deep eutectic solvent as a pretreatment solvent are introduced, and some suggestions for the future use of a green solvent to treat lignocellulose materials are provided.
