Molecular mechanism of the TGF-β/Smad7 signaling pathway in ulcerative colitis

Bingqing Bai et al.

Summary: This study found that anti-TNF-alpha and 5-ASA can improve intestinal epithelial permeability in a mouse model of colitis. The protective effects may be mediated by increased TGF-beta expression and/or reduced Smad7 expression, which inhibit epithelial MLCK activity and decrease mucosal permeability.

Extracellular Vesicles From Hyperammonemic Rats Induce Neuroinflammation in Cerebellum of Normal Rats: Role of Increased TNFα Content

Paula Izquierdo-Altarejos et al.

Summary: Hyperammonemia plays a main role in neurological impairment by enhancing GABAergic neurotransmission and neuroinflammation. Extracellular vesicles may contribute to the transmission of peripheral alterations to the brain in hyperammonemia and hepatic encephalopathy.

The Role of Intestinal Bacteria and Gut-Brain Axis in Hepatic Encephalopathy

Zefeng Chen et al.

Summary: Hepatic encephalopathy is a neurological disorder that occurs in patients with liver insufficiency, and its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Pharmacotherapy is the main therapeutic option for HE, which targets the pathogenesis of HE by reducing ammonia levels, improving neurotransmitter signal transduction, and modulating intestinal microbiota. The intestinal microbiota is closely associated with multiple links in the pathogenesis of HE, and restoring the homeostasis of intestinal bacteria or providing specific probiotics has significant effects on neurological disorders in HE.

Extracellular Vesicles in Blood: Sources, Effects, and Applications

Ainhoa Alberro et al.

Summary: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a vital role in intercellular communication, transferring information between nearby or distant cells. Blood is a major source of EVs, containing various types of EVs. Blood-derived EVs have significant potential in disease diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and prognosis.
