The PRIDE database resources in 2022: a hub for mass spectrometry-based proteomics evidences

Yasset Perez-Riverol et al.

Summary: PRIDE is the largest data repository of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data in the world, with around 500 datasets submitted per month. In addition to continuous improvements in data pipelines and infrastructure, PRIDE has developed the Spectra Archive and MAGE-TAB file format to enhance sample metadata annotation and access to mass spectra.

Hedgehog Signaling Pathway Orchestrates Human Lung Branching Morphogenesis

Randa Belgacemi et al.

Summary: The Hedgehog signaling pathway is essential for mouse lung development, and this study found similar expression patterns in human lung development. Inhibiting the Hedgehog signaling pathway in human lung development resulted in reduced branching and dysregulated epithelial-mesenchymal markers and related signaling pathways. These findings are important for exploring therapeutic targets for childhood pulmonary diseases.

Vertebrate Ionesome kinase modulates the hepatocyte secretome to prevent perivascular liver fibrosis and inflammation

Sophia Pantasis et al.

Summary: A study reveals the role of vertebrate lonesome kinase (VLK) in liver homeostasis and regeneration. VLK is highly expressed in neonatal mice hepatocytes but downregulated in adulthood. Knocking out VLK gene in hepatocytes leads to liver steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and expansion of liver progenitor cells in mice. These findings highlight the importance of VLK in liver function and repair.

Prolyl and lysyl hydroxylases in collagen synthesis

Antti M. Salo et al.

Summary: Collagens are the most abundant proteins in the extracellular matrix, providing a framework and structural support for organs and tissues. Intra- and extracellular modifications, particularly post-translational modifications of proline and lysine residues, are crucial for producing functional collagen molecules. The enzymes responsible for proline and lysine modifications, including collagen prolyl 4-hydroxylases, 3-hydroxylases, and lysyl hydroxylases, play important biological roles and are implicated in various diseases.
