Modeling of a membrane integrated catalytic microreactor for efficient DME production from syngas with CO2

H. Hasan Koybasi et al.

Summary: The process of converting syngas to dimethyl ether using a membrane-integrated microchannel reactor with in-situ steam separation was studied. It was found that under appropriate conditions, the use of membranes can improve the conversion rate of CO2 and the yield of DME.

Numerical Analysis of CO2-to-DME Conversion in a Membrane Microchannel Reactor

H. Hasan Koybasi et al.

Summary: Direct synthesis of DME via CO2 hydrogenation in a membrane-integrated microchannel reactor is investigated. The proposed reactor consists of sodalite membranes separating permeate and reaction channels, allowing only H2O and H-2 transport. The mathematical model of the reactor is successfully validated against experimental data and shows improved CO2 conversion and DME yield through cross-membrane transport.

Model validation of a packed bed LTA membrane reactor for the direct synthesis of DME from CO/CO2

Ainara Ateka et al.

Summary: The study successfully validated a model for simulating the direct synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) in a packed bed membrane reactor (PBMR) using a LTA zeolite hydrophilic membrane. Experimental runs showed that the model accurately predicted the molar fractions of compounds in the reaction medium and their evolution over time. The partial separation of H2O from the reaction medium in the PBMR led to higher DME yield, CO and CO2 conversions compared to systems without membrane.

Comparison of intensified reactor systems for one-step conversion of CO2-containing syngas to DME

H. Hasan Koybasi et al.

Summary: A comparison was made between two intensified reactor systems for the conversion of syngas to dimethyl ether, showing that the microchannel system has lower productivity compared to the cascade system, although the latter suffers from significant pressure drop.

Summary: The study focuses on the direct synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) by hydrogenation of CO2 in a packed bed membrane reactor (PBMR) using a hydrophilic LTA zeolite membrane to remove water, thereby improving the efficiency of methanol synthesis and dehydration stages. The results show good DME yield and CO2 conversion rate under certain conditions with high catalyst stability.

Sustainable DME synthesis from CO2-rich syngas in a membrane assisted reactor-microchannel heat exchanger system

H. Hasan Koybasi et al.

Summary: The one-step syngas-to-DME conversion process is modeled using a cascade of packed-bed reactors and microchannel heat exchangers. The use of sodalite membranes can increase DME production and CO2 utilization, but requires voluminous heat exchanger units for extended contact between fluids.

High Temperature Water Permeable Membrane Reactors for CO2 Utilization

Zhan Li et al.

Summary: Converting CO2 to valuable chemicals via catalytic CO2 hydrogenation is promising, but the challenge of water separation at high temperatures remains. Employing a water permeable membrane reactor can enhance CO2 conversion and protect the catalyst, yet developing high-performance membranes for this application is a technical hurdle to overcome.
