Straightforward construction of amino-functionalized ILs@SBA-15 catalysts via mechanochemical grafting for one-pot synthesis of cyclic carbonates from aromatic olefins and CO2

Guangcai Long et al.

Summary: In this study, an effective and straightforward strategy for the synthesis of amino-functionalized ILs@SBA-15 catalysts was proposed via mechanochemical grafting. The as-prepared catalysts exhibited impressive catalytic activity for the one-pot synthesis of cyclic carbonates from olefins and CO2 under metal-and cocatalyst-free conditions. The catalyst could be easily recovered without significant decrease in catalytic activity after multiple cycles. Additionally, a possible catalytic mechanism of the oxidative carboxylation reaction of olefins was proposed based on the results of the control experiment.

Towards highly efficient continuous-flow catalytic carbon dioxide cycloadditions with additively manufactured reactors

David Valverde et al.

Summary: Developing efficient and sustainable methods to convert CO2 into valuable chemicals is crucial for decarbonization in the chemical industry. In this study, a novel multi-scale approach combining hydrogen bonding ability, metal-free catalysts, and supported ionic liquids on polymers was developed for the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides. The use of additive manufacturing allowed for the digital design and rapid fabrication of structured reactors, which showed higher catalytic activity compared to packed bed reactors of similar size.
