Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Coronary Syndromes A Review

Deepak L. Bhatt et al.

Summary: This review discusses the current evidence on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, management, and prognosis of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). ACS is a sudden reduction in blood supply to the heart and includes ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-STEMI (NSTEMI), and unstable angina. Each year, more than 7 million people are diagnosed with ACS worldwide. Prompt intervention, such as primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for STEMI patients and invasive coronary angiography with revascularization for high-risk NSTE-ACS patients, is associated with reduced mortality.

Geraniin Protects against Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Suppressing Oxidative Stress and Neuronal Apoptosis via Regulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 Pathway

Yuan Yang et al.

Summary: Geraniin has a protective effect against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by suppressing oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis. The activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway is involved in this protective effect. These results suggest that geraniin may be a potential drug candidate for the treatment of ischemic stroke.

Fucoxanthin Attenuates Oxidative Damage by Activating the Sirt1/Nrf2/HO-1 Signaling Pathway to Protect the Kidney from Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Hu Mao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of fucoxanthin against renal ischemia/reperfusion injury and demonstrated that the underlying mechanism may involve the attenuation of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis through the activation of the Sirt1/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway by fucoxanthin.

Catalpol alleviates myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway

Hanwei Ge et al.

Summary: In this study, Catalpol was found to significantly suppress MI/RI and protect OGD/R-treated cardiomyocytes by inhibiting various markers of inflammation and suppressing oxidative stress. Mechanistically, it was demonstrated that Catalpol could effectively activate the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway to suppress damage caused by inflammation and oxidative stress in MI/RI.

Postconditioning with Irisin Attenuates Lung Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Suppressing Ferroptosis via Induction of the Nrf2/HO-1 Signal Axis

Yun Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that irisin postconditioning protects against lung ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) damage by inhibiting ferroptosis through the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling axis.

Yuan Lu et al.

Summary: This study found that seven risk factors, including diabetes, depression, hypertension, current smoking, family history of premature myocardial infarction, low household income, and hypercholesterolemia, collectively accounted for the majority of the total risk of first AMI in young women (83.9%) and men (85.1%).

Aloin antagonizes stimulated ischemia/reperfusion-induced damage and inflammatory response in cardiomyocytes by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 defense pathway

Wei Sun et al.

Summary: Aloin exhibits protective effects on cardiomyocytes by reducing cell death, decreasing oxidative stress and inflammation, promoting antioxidant enzyme activity, and may serve as a promising therapeutic agent against myocardial infarction.

Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion induced cardiac extracellular vesicles harbour proinflammatory features and aggravate heart injury

Xinyu Ge et al.

Summary: The study revealed that EVs released by the heart during ischemia-reperfusion exacerbate heart injury, while inhibiting EVs with GW4869 can reduce the damage. It was further demonstrated that IR-EVs promote M1-like polarization of macrophages and increase the expression of inflammatory cytokines.
