Neural pathways from the central nucleus of the amygdala to the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus are involved in induction of yawning behavior due to emotional stress in rats

Natsuko Kubota et al.

Summary: This study suggests that emotion-induced yawning may be induced through the neural pathways from the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) to the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) via the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST). Lesion experiments on the CeA showed that the CeA is involved in the induction of emotion-induced yawning.

Sympathetic nervous system and hypertension: New evidences

Gino Seravalle et al.

Summary: Evidence collected in the past few years has shown that the sympathetic nervous system plays a primary role in the development and progression of hypertension. This review discusses the importance of genetic background, the immune system, and sympathetic activation in hypertension, as well as the role of sympathetic mechanisms in blood pressure measurements and resistant hypertension.

V1a and V1b vasopressin receptors within the paraventricular nucleus contribute to hypertension in male rats exposed to chronic mild unpredictable stress

Dragana Komnenov et al.

Summary: Depression is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality. In the CMS rat model of depression, vasopressin receptors within the paraventricular nucleus are implicated in neurocardiovascular dysregulation. Inhibition of vasopressinergic mechanisms involving V1aR and V1bR can mitigate elevated arterial pressure, heart rate, and renal sympathetic nerve activity seen in depressive rats.

A hypothalamic-thalamostriatal circuit that controls approach-avoidance conflict in rats

D. S. Engelke et al.

Summary: The study reveals that specific CRF-positive neurons in the paraventricular thalamus of rats are crucial in mediating defensive behaviors during conflicts between seeking rewards and avoiding threats. These neurons project to the nucleus accumbens, impacting food seeking and avoidance behaviors. Furthermore, the interaction between the ventromedial hypothalamus and aPVT neurons plays a key role in the modulation of defensive responses during conflicts.

α2δ-1-Dependent NMDA Receptor Activity in the Hypothalamus Is an Effector of Genetic-Environment Interactions That Drive Persistent Hypertension

Jing-Jing Zhou et al.

Summary: The study reveals that chronic stress-induced persistent hypertension is mediated by enhanced sympathetic outflow via alpha 2 delta-1-bound NMDARs in the paraventricular nucleus. This provides a cellular and molecular basis for understanding how genetic and environmental factors interact to cause persistent hypertension.
