Phosphorus doped carbon nitride with rich nitrogen vacancy to enhance the electrocatalytic activity for nitrogen reduction reaction

Ziming Zhao et al.

Summary: The metal-free electrocatalyst P-NV-C3N4, synthesized through P doping in C3N4 combined with the design of nitrogen vacancy structure, demonstrates excellent electrocatalytic activity, selectivity, and stability for Nitrogen reduction reaction. Characterization and DFT calculation show that P doping promotes water splitting and provides hydrogen source, while N-vacancy structure inhibits HER pathway and promotes N-2 activation. The optimal reaction pathway and improved NRR performance are achieved through reducing energy barrier and stabilizing reaction intermediates.

Recent progress in research on multifunctional graphitic carbon nitride: An emerging wonder material beyond catalyst

Meenakshi Talukdar et al.

Summary: Advanced carbon-based materials with smart engineering and architecture are crucial in effective visible-light-induced applications as catalysts. Fluorescent carbon nitride, one of the oldest semiconductor materials, has been extensively modified to improve its performance and meet future requirements. The abundant and easy production of aromatic tri-s-triazine carbon nitride has shown interdisciplinary potential for versatile applications. Extensive efforts have been made to investigate and enhance its chemistry, beyond initial expectations. However, the low electronic conductivity, lack of absorption above 460 nm, and low surface area in bulk carbon nitride limit its pristine applications. The integration of different functionalities with pristine g-C3N4 has led to a deeper understanding of this material in a broader framework.

Carbon and phosphorus co-doped carbon nitride hollow tube for improved photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Shuo Zhao et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride hollow tubes co-doped with carbon and phosphorus (CPCN) were developed as visible light photocatalysts. The hollow tubes exhibited improved catalytic activity due to the increased active sites and visible light harvesting ability. The co-doping of carbon and phosphorus resulted in a narrower band gap and faster charge transfer, leading to enhanced catalytic performance. The study demonstrates the synergistic effect of carbon and phosphorus co-doping on promoting photoinduced charge transfer and inhibiting recombination.

Production of mesoporous carbon nitrides and their photocatalytic properties for degradation of organic pollutants

Suyeon Lee et al.

Summary: Degradation of organic pollutants is an important research area to solve environmental issues. Metal-free carbon nitride (C3N4) materials have a great potential as cost-effective and environment-friendly photocatalysts for this purpose. In this study, mesoporous C3N4 materials were developed through self-assembly and showed excellent photocatalytic activities for degrading rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. These materials exhibited higher surface areas, better adsorption ability of visible light, and longer lifetimes of the photoexcited electrons compared to common C3N4 samples, which contribute to their outstanding photocatalytic performance.
