Interaction of gravitropism and phototropism in roots of Brassica oleracea

Luigi Gennaro Izzo et al.

Summary: The study focused on the effects of different gravity levels and light treatments on root growth orientation. Results showed that roots exhibited negative phototropism under unilateral blue or white light, while roots illuminated with red light showed weak bending in simulated microgravity and were similar to roots grown in the dark under all gravity levels. Consideration of directional lighting as an effective stimulus for guiding root growth in various gravity conditions was highlighted.

Alginate-Induced Disease Resistance in Plants

Roohallah Saberi Riseh et al.

Summary: Plants face a wide range of pathogens and require a sophisticated defense system to survive. Hormones such as salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene play a key role in regulating defense responses. Inducing resistance in plants against pathogens can be achieved using both biotic and abiotic agents. Recently, natural inducer compounds, like alginates, have gained interest due to their environmentally friendly nature and ability to enhance plant defense mechanisms and growth.

Green biocomposite Poly (vinyl alcohol)/starch cryogels as new advanced tools for the cleaning of artifacts

Vanessa Rosciardi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of rice starch and polyvinyl alcohol to develop renewable hydrogels with improved cleaning efficacy. The composites exhibited strong gel properties and their structure and rheological behavior could be controlled by adjusting the PVA/RS ratio. The experimental findings suggest the formation of hybrid PVA-RS links. The PVA/RS composites showed high cleaning effectiveness and represent a significant advancement in the development of eco-sustainable cleaning formulations.

Toward Plant Cyborgs: Hydrogels Incorporated onto Plant Tissues Enable Programmable Shape Control

Jiayu Zhao et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the creation of plant cyborgs by combining plants or plant tissues with stimuli-responsive polymeric materials. By using 3D printing, the researchers were able to integrate stimuli-responsive hydrogels with decellularized plant tissues, allowing for programmable shape morphing in response to external stimuli. This advancement opens up possibilities for the development of plant-based biosensors and soft actuators.

Encapsulation of Plant Biocontrol Bacteria with Alginate as a Main Polymer Material

Roohallah Saberi Riseh et al.

Summary: Biological control is a favored trend in modern agriculture, and encapsulating biocontrol agents within external coatings for protection has become popular. Alginate, a biopolymer extracted from seaweed, is commonly used for microencapsulation of biocontrol bacteria, meeting key requirements for biocompatibility, biodegradability, and support of long-term survival and function. However, further studies are needed to verify the efficacy of alginate in pest and disease management, as well as the effects of encapsulation on targeted release in organic crop production systems.
