Solar-driven interfacial evaporation of a hanging liquid marble

Guansheng Yao et al.

Summary: Experimental results demonstrate that liquid marbles coated with photothermal nanoparticles can accelerate liquid evaporation under solar irradiation, exhibiting a higher evaporation rate compared to nanofluid drops and water drops. This is attributed to the plasmon-coupling effect between nanoparticles along the drop surface, creating a high-temperature thermal boundary for intense evaporation of the liquid.

pH-Responsive Liquid Marbles Based on Dihydroxystearic Acid

Jianxin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, pH-responsive liquid marbles stabilized by 9,10-dihydroxystearic acid (DHSA) were investigated. The particle morphology and pH-responsive behavior of the liquid marbles were studied. The rolling time during preparation significantly affected the powder adsorption thickness and marble stability. The liquid marbles stabilized by DHSA exhibited higher mechanical robustness compared to those stabilized by other fatty acids. The addition of hydroxyl groups on the carbon chain of fatty acids improved the mechanical robustness of the liquid marbles. These liquid marbles disintegrated immediately upon contact with alkaline solution or NH3 gas, which expands their applications in NH3 sensing and chemical reactions.

Photo/Thermo Dual Stimulus-Responsive Liquid Marbles Stabilized with Polypyrrole-Coated Stearic Acid Particles

Yusuke Tsumura et al.

Summary: In this study, dual stimulus-responsive liquid marbles (LMs) that can be disrupted by light irradiation and/or heating were fabricated. The LMs were stabilized by micrometer-sized stearic acid (SA) particles coated with polypyrrole (PPy) overlayers. The presence of SA, known as a phase-change material, and PPy, which can convert light to heat, gave rise to the photo and thermo dual stimulus-responsive characters of the LMs. The disruption of the LMs was induced in a cascade manner, and the disruption time could be tuned by adjusting the PPy loading and light irradiation power.

Probing and Manipulating Noncovalent Interactions in Functional Polymeric Systems

Jingsi Chen et al.

Summary: This review discusses the mechanical characterization of noncovalent interactions in polymeric systems and their correlation with macroscopic performance. By quantifying these interactions, it is possible to customize polymer materials with specific functions and provide insights for the rational design of advanced materials.
