Incidence trends for twelve cancers in younger adults-a rapid review

Summary: This rapid review found that the incidence of colorectal, breast, kidney, pancreas, and uterine cancer is increasing in younger age groups, while the incidence of lung, laryngeal, and bladder cancer is decreasing. Practical Considerations in Diagnosing and Managing Early-Onset GI Cancers

Summary: The incidence of early-onset gastrointestinal (GI) cancers in young individuals has been increasing rapidly, and its causes and effects on cancer progression and treatment response are still unknown. While there are clinical differences between early-onset GI cancers and average-onset GI cancers, there is no molecular distinction between the two. Further research is needed to understand the pathogenesis and optimal management of early-onset GI cancers, and early biomarkers are necessary for effective screening. Specialized centers can provide comprehensive care for patients with early-onset GI cancers, addressing their unique psychosocial needs.

These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Familial aggregation of gastric cancer is uncommon, but a germline genetic mutation was found in 25% of patients with clinical criteria.
