Low-Cost Activated Carbon for Petroleum Products Clean-Up

Ramonna I. Kosheleva et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the performance of low-cost activated carbon derived from potato peels in adsorbing petroleum products. The results showed that the sample prepared at 600°C had the highest oil sorption capacity, specific surface area, and pore volume. The activated carbon material also performed well in adsorbing oil under realistic conditions, indicating its potential for oil spill response.

Controlled pyrolysis of sugarcane bagasse enhanced mesoporous carbon for improving capacitance of supercapacitor electrode

Chika A. Okonkwo et al.

Summary: Controlled pyrolysis of biomass with ice water was introduced to recover substantial mesopores and relevant surface functional groups needed for high energy storage in supercapacitors. The resulting porous carbon exhibited optimized mesopores and high specific surface area, leading to improved electrochemical performance compared to untreated bagasse carbon.

Promising activated carbon derived from sugarcane tip as electrode material for high-performance supercapacitors

Bo Wei et al.

Summary: A low-cost method for producing activated-carbon materials from sugarcane tips via two-step pre-carbonization and KOH activation treatment was presented. The resulting activated carbon had a large surface area and oxygen content, which attributed to the large number of micropores. The activated carbon showed high specific capacitance, good rate capability, excellent cycling stability, and high specific energy density in supercapacitors.
