An improved 3D DDA method considering the unloading effect of tunnel excavation and its application

Hongyun Fan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a virtual block removal algorithm that removes blocks from the calculation area while ensuring the consistency of the array, and develops an improved 3D DDA method (3D DDA_exc) suitable for simulating tunnel excavation. The accuracy of the 3D DDA_exc method is validated through comparisons with theoretical calculations and simulations using the discrete element method (DEM). The application of the method in a case study further demonstrates its guiding significance in ensuring the safe construction of tunnels.

Influence of non-persistent joint aperture and inclination angle on the shear behavior and fracture mode of solid rock and concrete material

Zhufeng Yue et al.

Summary: Non-persistent joints or cracks have a significant impact on the mechanical behavior and fracturing process of rock and concrete materials. The aperture of the joint plays a crucial role in determining the shear behavior and fracturing modes of these materials, and this influence varies with the joint inclination angle and normal stress.

Experimental Study on Anchorage Mechanical Behavior and Surface Cracking Characteristics of a Non-persistent Jointed Rock Mass

Sheng-Qi Yang et al.

Summary: The anchorage method and pretightening force significantly affect the peak strength and elastic modulus of non-persistent jointed rock mass. Different anchorage methods result in varying mechanical properties, while an increase in pretightening force also has a significant impact on strength and deformation characteristics.

Secondary toppling failure analysis and optimal support design for ignimbrites in the Ihlara Valley (Cappadocia, Turkey) by finite element method (FEM)

Mehmet Sari

Summary: The study focused on the hazards and prevention methods of Kizilkaya ignimbrite in the Ihlara Valley (Cappadocia, Turkey), using finite element method models to illustrate the progressive failure mechanism in the valley's cliffs. An effective support system was proposed to remedy slope failure, showing the promising potential of numerical solutions in jointed rock masses.
