A more accurate definition of water characteristics in stone materials for an improved understanding and effective protection of cultural heritage from biodeterioration

Yong-Hui Li et al.

Summary: Water plays a crucial role in the initiation of microbial colonization and subsequent biodeterioration processes in cultural heritage materials. The different types of water in materials, along with characteristics like porosity and pore connectivity, affect microbial growth and biodeterioration. Managing water is a fundamental strategy to prevent long-term damage to cultural heritage.

Towards understanding the link between the deterioration of building materials and the nature of aerophytic green algae

Paulina Nowicka-Krawczyk et al.

Summary: The gradual degradation of technical materials by green algae has significant economic and social implications, with green algae able to colonize and impact various terrestrial environments. Through cellular adaptations and life mechanisms, green algae are able to survive in harsh environments and accelerate the degradation of building materials.

Influence of Light Conditions on Microalgae Growth and Content of Lipids, Carotenoids, and Fatty Acid Composition

Yevhen Maltsev et al.

Summary: Microalgae are a valuable natural resource for producing a variety of value-added products. The optimal light intensity for their growth is around 26,400 µmol photons m(-2) s(-1), with higher intensity leading to increased lipid synthesis and triacylglyceride content. Light intensity also affects the synthesis of fatty acids and carotenoids in microalgae biomass. Additionally, combining light with other stresses can enhance the productivity of algae.
