Increased use of knowledge translation strategies is associated with greater research impact on public health policy and practice: an analysis of trials of nutrition, physical activity, sexual health, tobacco, alcohol and substance use interventions

Luke Wolfenden et al.

Summary: This study aims to describe the research impact of public health intervention trials on public health policy and practice, explore the association between trial characteristics and research impact, and examine the association between the use of knowledge translation (KT) strategies and research impacts. The results showed that 65% of the trials had at least one research impact, with citation in policy documents or announcements being the most frequently reported impact. The use of comprehensive KT strategies was found to be associated with greater research impact.

A scoping review of frameworks in empirical studies and a review of dissemination frameworks

Ana A. Baumann et al.

Summary: This study examines the field of dissemination research in the context of dissemination and implementation (D&I) research. The findings reveal a lack of consensus on the definition of dissemination and the ambiguity of constructs in dissemination frameworks. The study suggests that strengthening the definitions and distinctions in dissemination research could enhance scientific reproducibility and advance the field of dissemination research.

There's no money in community dissemination: A mixed methods analysis of researcher dissemination-as-usual

Heatherlun S. Uphold et al.

Summary: This study used a mixed methods design to examine the dissemination methods used by academic researchers and the factors influencing their choices. The findings indicated that more experienced researchers were able to utilize a greater variety of dissemination strategies to share research findings with community stakeholders, but they also identified a need for specific training, institutional support, and dedicated time for planning and implementing dissemination strategies.
