Systematic Analysis of bHLH Transcription Factors in Cassava Uncovers Their Roles in Postharvest Physiological Deterioration and Cyanogenic Glycosides Biosynthesis

Feifei An et al.

Summary: In this study, the bHLH gene family in cassava was investigated through genome-wide survey and transcriptome data analysis. The results revealed the important roles of these genes in various physiological and stress responses in cassava. In addition, some MebHLH genes were found to be sensitive to postharvest physiological deterioration (PPD) and may be involved in the regulation of this process.

Two metallothionein genes highly expressed in rice nodes are involved in distribution of Zn to the grain

Gui Jie Lei et al.

Summary: In this study, highly expressed metallothionein genes OsMT2b and OsMT2c in rice nodes were found to play a crucial role in zinc distribution to grains through chelation and transport, impacting grain yield. Knockout of these genes led to increased zinc accumulation in nodes but decreased zinc distribution to panicles, resulting in reduced grain yield. The findings suggest that OsMT2b and OsMT2c are key players in zinc distribution in rice plants.

Genome-Wide Identification and Characterization of Polygalacturonase Gene Family in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Lu Lu et al.

Summary: This study identified 55 PG family genes from the maize genome, revealing their evolutionary relationship and expression patterns. ZmPGs were grouped into six Clades, with highly conserved gene structures suggesting potential conservation of function. 18 ZmPGs were highly expressed in maize anther, showing possible functional divergence among ZmPGs.

High resolution estimates of relative gene abundance with quantitative ratiometric regression PCR (qRR-PCR)

Alexander Y. Trick et al.

Summary: This work presents a quantitative ratiometric regression PCR (qRR-PCR) method for computing the relative abundance of genetic traits with high resolution from a single duplexed real-time quantitative PCR assay. The algorithm leverages the innate relationship of co-amplified PCR targets to measure their relative quantities using characteristic curves derived from the normalized ratios of qPCR fluorescence curves. The technique is demonstrated to be useful for discriminating the fractional abundance of mixed alleles with resolution below 5%.
