Effects of Bisphosphonates on Bone of Osteoporotic Men With Different Androgen Levels: A Case-Control Study

Bing-Na Zhou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of bisphosphonates on osteoporotic men with different androgen levels. The results showed that bisphosphonates significantly increased bone mineral density and decreased bone resorption. Testosterone levels were positively correlated with bone mineral density in men with hypogonadism.

Time to Benefit of Bisphosphonate Therapy for the Prevention of Fractures Among Postmenopausal Women With Osteoporosis: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

William James Deardorff et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that the time to benefit of bisphosphonate therapy was 12.4 months to prevent 1 nonvertebral fracture per 100 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. These results suggest that bisphosphonate therapy is most likely to benefit postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who have a life expectancy greater than 12.4 months.

Sex Differences in Recovery Across Multiple Domains Among Older Adults With Hip Fracture

Denise L. Orwig et al.

Summary: This study suggests that male hip fracture patients have higher mortality but continue to show functional recovery compared to females over a 12-month period. Further research is needed to determine the underlying causes of these sex differences for the development of future prognostic information and rehabilitative interventions.

The clinician's guide to prevention and treatment of osteoporosis

M. S. LeBoff et al.

Summary: Osteoporosis is a common metabolic bone disease that often leads to fractures, placing a burden on individuals and the economy. Osteoporosis in Men: A Review of an Underestimated Bone Condition

Giuseppe Rinonapoli et al.

Summary: Osteoporosis, known as the 'silent disease', can lead to fragility fractures and serious consequences, especially in women. However, male osteoporosis is often underestimated by physicians despite high incidence and increased risk of complications, indicating a lack of screening, diagnosis, and treatment for men.

Assessment of Quality of Life and Pain Severity in Older Men with Osteoporosis: Cross-Sectional Study

Agnieszka Nawrat-Szoltysik et al.

Summary: The study focused on the quality of life for men with osteoporosis, finding a strong correlation between lower bone mass density and various components of life quality. Pain intensity was found to significantly impact the general health perception of older men with osteoporosis. The results can be used to develop new prophylactic strategies for improving the quality of life in men with osteoporosis.

Health-related quality of life in men with osteoporosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Jing Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that men with osteoporosis had poorer overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and multiple dimensions of HRQoL compared to men without osteoporosis. Hip fracture, vertebral fractures, or wrist fractures significantly impaired HRQoL in men, and physical function was already declined even before hip fracture.
