Light Triggered Enhancement of Antibiotic Efficacy in Biofilm Elimination Mediated by Gold-Silver Alloy Nanoparticles

Cinthia Alves-Barroco et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of gold-silver alloy nanoparticles (AuAgNPs) to eradicate bacterial biofilms. Visible light irradiation of AuAgNPs disrupts the biofilms' matrix, leading to increased permeability for antibiotics and subsequent eradication of biofilms. Additionally, AuAgNPs inhibit the formation of biofilms by downregulating critical genes involved in biofilm production.

Whole genome sequencing reveals possible host species adaptation of Streptococcusdysgalactiae

Davide Porcellato et al.

Summary: Research on Streptococcus dysgalactiae (SD) reveals that it is an emerging pathogen in both human and veterinary medicine, with diverse host species, disease phenotypes, and virulence mechanisms. Analysis of SDSD and SDSE genomes from various host species suggests a complex phylogenetic relationship within SD, with distinct differences between SDSD and SDSE, indicating potential for adaptation to multiple hosts.

New Insights on Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae Isolates

Cinthia Alves-Barroco et al.

Summary: The study suggests that there is a niche expansion for Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae (SDSD) into human infections, possibly due to the acquisition of virulence genes. Genetic relationships between human SDSD, SDSE, and bovine SDSD were analyzed, showing closer relationships between human strains. The presence of the CRISPR/Cas IIA system among bovine SDSD isolates and the maintenance of virulence genes over time indicate potential activities and adaptations within the subspecies.
