Long-read isoform sequencing reveals tissue-specific isoform expression between active and hibernating brown bears (Ursus arctos)

Elizabeth Tseng et al.

Summary: Understanding the hibernation process in brown bears provides valuable insights into human diseases. This study used full-length RNA sequencing to identify differential isoform usage during hibernation and active seasons in adipose, skeletal muscle, and liver tissues of brown bears. The results showed a high level of differential isoform expression in adipose tissue, indicating the importance of isoform expression in hibernation physiology. This research highlights the significance of studying isoforms and their role in hibernation biology.

Adaptive selection signatures in river buffalo with emphasis on immune and major histocompatibility complex genes

Yan Ren et al.

Summary: The study found that gene families in river buffalo have significantly changed since divergence from cattle, involving protein degradation, the olfactory receptor system, detoxification, and the immune system. Analysis of positively selected genes revealed potential involvement in skin differentiation, mammary development, and bone formation in river buffalo. Furthermore, evaluation of differences among species in the major histocompatibility complex was enabled by the high contiguity of the genomes.

Full-length transcript sequencing of human and mouse cerebral cortex identifies widespread isoform diversity and alternative splicing

Szi Kay Leung et al.

Summary: Using long-read isoform sequencing, this study generated full-length transcript sequences in the human and mouse cortex, identifying new transcripts and similar global patterns of transcript diversity. Species-specific differences in certain genes were observed, as well as developmental changes in alternative splicing in the cortex.
