Epigenetic landscape of small cell lung cancer: small image of a giant recalcitrant disease

Parvez Khan et al.

Summary: SCLC is a subtype of lung cancer with high mortality, where epigenetic modifications play a crucial role in tumorigenesis, progression, and drug resistance. Understanding SCLC epigenetics is important for prognostication, treatment stratification, and the development of new therapies.

CXCL6 fuels the growth and metastases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cells both in vitro and in vivo through upregulation of PD-L1 via activation of STAT3 pathway

Shutao Zheng et al.

Summary: CXCL6 is highly expressed in ESCC and significantly correlated with differentiation degree. It promotes proliferation, migration, invasion of ESCC cells, and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition and upregulates PD-L1 expression through activation of the STAT3 pathway. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirm that CXCL6 enhances the growth and metastases of ESCC cells.

Current treatment and recent progress in gastric cancer

Smita S. Joshi et al.

Summary: Gastric cancer is a common cause of cancer death worldwide, with treatment options including systemic chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. Classification and biomarkers for gastric cancer help in personalized therapy and identifying populations most likely to benefit from immunotherapy and targeted therapy.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Identification of an Individualized Immune-Related Prognostic Risk Score in Lung Squamous Cell Cancer

Yuan Zhuang et al.

Summary: This study used 15 IRGs to construct an effective risk prediction model, demonstrating the significance of IRGs-based personalized immune scores in LUSC prognosis. IRGs were closely correlated with patients' age and immune cell infiltration.

Checkpoint Inhibitors in Melanoma Patients with Underlying Autoimmune Disease

Hilary Dietz et al.

Summary: The development of immune checkpoint inhibitors has significantly impacted the clinical management of metastatic melanoma and other solid tumors. Retrospective data suggest that these inhibitors can be used in patients with underlying autoimmune disease with a tolerable level of adverse events, but coordination with specialists and careful monitoring are essential. Studies on novel approaches for preventing and managing immune-related adverse events in these patients are ongoing to establish safe clinical practices.

FOXO3 is a latent tumor suppressor for FOXO3-positive and cytoplasmic-type gastric cancer cells

Toshikatsu Tsuji et al.

Summary: The study found that FOXO3 displays different expression patterns in different subtypes of gastric cancer: in FOXO3-Cyt gastric cancer cells, activation of mutant FOXO3 leads to nuclear accumulation and growth inhibition, while inhibition of the PI3K-AKT pathway also suppresses proliferation in this type of gastric cancer cells.

Development and Validation of a Robust Immune-Related Prognostic Signature for Gastric Cancer

Junyu Huo et al.

Summary: This study constructed and validated a robust prognostic signature for gastric cancer (GC), which showed high predictive accuracy for overall survival (OS) and served as an independent indicator of prognosis for GC patients. Clinical correlation analysis suggested that different types of GC patients may have diverse risk scores, with the risk score increasing with the progression of clinicopathological stage.

Jinfeng Zhu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that high expression of LOX in gastric cancer tissues is significantly associated with poor overall survival, LOX overexpression is closely correlated with T-stage progression in gastric cancer, and LOX is an independent factor affecting the prognosis of gastric cancer patients.
