Di(Thioether Sulfonate)-Substituted Quinolinedione as a Rapidly Dissoluble and Stable Electron Mediator and Its Application in Sensitive Biosensors

Ponnusamy Nandhakumar et al.

Summary: A strategic design incorporating sulfonated thioether and nitrogen-containing heteroarene into quinones has produced electron mediators with rapid dissolution, high stability, and suitable formal potential for electrochemical biosensors. The developed di(thioether sulfonate)-substituted quinoline-1,4-dione and quinoxaline-1,4-dione demonstrate excellent solubility, stability, and formal potentials, making them ideal for point-of-care testing. These organic electron mediators, particularly QLS, show great potential for sensitive detection of analytes like glucose and parathyroid hormone in biosensors.

Seonhwa Park et al.

Summary: Bienzymatic systems are used with electrochemical affinity biosensors to achieve high signal levels and low background levels. Selecting two enzymes with optimal conditions and no mutual interference is crucial. The bienzymatic system reported in this study showed high sensitivity in detecting parathyroid hormone, demonstrating its potential for highly sensitive electrochemical detection of biomarkers in human serum.

Trypsin Detection Using Electrochemical Reduction-based Redox Cycling

Jeonghwa Shin et al.

Summary: It is more challenging to achieve high signal-to-background ratios in biosensors with electrochemical reduction compared to electrochemical oxidation. This study introduced a method for trypsin detection using electrochemical reduction-based redox cycling, comparing enzymatic and chemical redox cycling. Results showed that using cytochrome c as a redox enzyme in EN redox cycling had lower background levels compared to horseradish peroxidase, leading to more sensitive trypsin detection.
