Fluorescence quenching, DFT, NBO, and TD-DFT calculations on 1, 4-bis [2-benzothiazolyl vinyl] benzene (BVB) and meso-tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS) in the presence of silver nanoparticles

Ahmed A. AboAlhasan et al.

Summary: This study used steady-state fluorescence measurements to investigate the fluorescence quenching of 1, 4-bis [-(2-benzothiazolyl) vinyl benzene (BVB) by sodium salt of meso-tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS) in the presence and absence of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The results showed that the presence of Ag NPs increased the efficiency of energy transfer (ET). The molecular structures were optimized to understand the mechanism. The experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement.

Theoretical study of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives as potential antennas in lanthanide complexes: Photophysical properties and elucidation of energy transfer pathways

Juan Julian Santoyo-Flores et al.

Summary: A series of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives were theoretically characterized and tested as potential antennas in a set of designed lanthanide complexes. The photophysical properties of these antennas were carefully analyzed, energy transfer pathways were elucidated, and rate constants for photophysical processes were calculated. The energy transfer process demonstrates the possibility of Eu(III) and Nd(III) sensitization by the studied ligands.

Jeanet Conradie et al.

Summary: A detailed TDDFT study was conducted on the effect of diprotonation on the UV-vis-NIR spectra of free-base tetraphenylporphyrin and tetrakis(p-aminophenyl)porphyrin. The study revealed that the redshift in the diprotonated forms can be explained by changes in molecular orbitals. Additionally, it was found that the hybrid B3LYP functional provided a better description of key spectral features compared to the pure OLYP functional.
