An updated review on probiotics as an alternative of antibiotics in poultry - A review

Muhammad Umar Yaqoob et al.

Summary: Antibiotics used in animal feeds have both positive and negative effects. To address the negative impacts, scientists are developing probiotics as an alternative to antibiotics. Probiotics have various benefits in poultry production, including promoting growth and improving health. They establish interactions between different bacterial strains in the gut ecosystem and have antimicrobial and cholesterol-reducing effects.

Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells spheroid culture effect on the therapeutic efficacy of these cells and their exosomes: A new strategy to overcome cell therapy limitations

Ali Hazrati et al.

Summary: Cell therapy, specifically mesenchymal stem/stromal cell (MSCs) transplantation, has emerged as a new treatment method with therapeutic efficacy proven in clinical applications. MSCs exert their therapeutic functions through various mechanisms such as differentiation potential, immunomodulatory properties, production of therapeutic exosomes, growth factors and cytokines, and anti-apoptotic effects. However, limitations in exosome production and therapeutic ability have prompted researchers to explore methods that enhance the therapeutic potential of exosomes, such as MSCs cultured in spheroids. This review discusses the enhanced properties of MSCs and their exosomes in spheroid culture.

The role of the gut microbiota in multiple sclerosis

Jorge Correale et al.

Summary: Research in the past decade has shown that the gut microbiota, a community of microorganisms in the gut, is closely linked to human health and disease, particularly in terms of immune responses. This review examines the impact of the gut microbiota on immune function by influencing serotonin production in the gut and interacting with components of the immune system like T cells and B cells. The authors present evidence from studies in mice and humans that the gut microbiota plays an important role in the development and course of multiple sclerosis. They also discuss strategies, such as probiotics, bacterial metabolite supplementation, fecal transplantation, and dietary intervention, for manipulating the gut microbiota to address immune dysfunction related to the disease.

The potential use of mesenchymal stem cells and their exosomes in Parkinson's disease treatment

Reza Mosaddeghi Heris et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is the second most predominant neurodegenerative disease worldwide, characterized by progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons and dopamine depletion leading to severe complications in motor function. Current treatment focuses on symptom relief, highlighting the importance of developing neuroprotective techniques. Regenerative cell therapy, particularly mesenchymal stem cells and their derived exosomes, shows potential effectiveness in treating PD.

CRISPR/Cas9-engineered mesenchymal stromal/stem cells and their extracellular vesicles: A new approach to overcoming cell therapy limitations

Ali Hazrati et al.

Summary: Cell therapy is a novel approach for treating tissue destruction diseases and replacing damaged parts in defective tissues. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have received significant attention due to their advantages and desirable properties. The secretome derived from MSCs, including growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular vesicles, is utilized for the treatment of various diseases. Gene editing, particularly using CRISPR/Cas9, has been recommended to enhance the therapeutic potential of MSCs by manipulating genes associated with stemness, aging, migration, proliferation, survival, and inflammatory responses.

Applying probiotics and prebiotics in new delivery formats-is the clinical evidence transferable?

Marla Cunningham et al.

Summary: This study provides an overview of how probiotic and prebiotic efficacy may be influenced by processing and incorporation into different delivery matrices. While in vitro data shows potential interactions with the delivery matrix, evidence for significant in vivo impact is limited. Regulatory expectations vary among regions, but typically allow for scientific justification to translate evidence across product formats. Host factors such as diet, health, and microbiome status are likely to play a key role in individual responses to probiotics and prebiotics.
