mTOR inhibitor PP242 increases antitumor activity of sulforaphane by blocking Akt/mTOR pathway in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Zhaoming Lu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that PP242 enhances the anti-tumor activity of SFN by blocking SFN-induced activation of Akt/mTOR pathway in ESCC, providing a rationale for treating ESCC using SFN combined with Akt/mTOR pathway inhibitors.

Prediction of Oral Acute Toxicity of Organophosphates Using QSAR Methods

Mina Kianpour et al.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the oral acute toxicity of organophosphates using QSAR methods, and developed reliable models for screening molecular descriptors. Molecular descriptors such as ALOGP2, RDF030u were found to have more importance in predicting the LD50. The BPANN method showed the best prediction outcomes with high correlation with experimental data.

Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD): update 2021

Allan Peter Davis et al.

Summary: The public Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD) is a digital ecosystem that integrates toxicological information to advance understanding about human health. With a 20% increase in curated content, CTD now provides an extensive dataset for over 16,300 chemicals, 51,300 genes, and more, enhancing its usefulness as a resource for generating testable hypotheses about environmentally influenced diseases.

Sulforaphane Causes Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis in Human Glioblastoma U87MG and U373MG Cell Lines under Hypoxic Conditions

Giulia Sita et al.

Summary: Sulforaphane (SFN) exhibits antineoplastic effects on glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cells by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting proliferation, potentially through mechanisms involving oxidative stress induction and cell cycle arrest. These effects suggest that SFN treatment could serve as a potential therapeutic strategy against GBM, either alone or in combination with other treatments.

Dietary supplementation with sulforaphane ameliorates skin aging through activation of the Keap1-Nrf2 pathway

Marija Petkovic et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary supplementation with SFN increased antioxidant capacities and gene expression related to the Nrf2 pathway in the skin of old mice. Protein levels for Nrf2 were also increased, while ROS and MMP9 levels decreased significantly. Furthermore, collagen deposition was improved in young mice and significantly improved in old mice with SFN treatment, indicating that SFN can ameliorate skin aging.

Andrea Mahn et al.

Summary: Sulforaphane (SFN) from Brassicaceae plants is a bioactive compound with various health-promoting properties, such as cancer prevention, hypertension improvement, and cardiomyopathy prevention. SFN acts at the cellular level by activating transcription nuclear factor (Nrf2) to induce antioxidant and Phase II detoxifying enzymes.
