Automated lesion segmentation in fundus images with many-to-many reassembly of features

Qing Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel Many-to-Many Reassembly of Features (M2MRF) for tiny lesion segmentation, which can reassemble features in a dimension-reduced feature space and simultaneously aggregates multiple features inside a large predefined region. Experimental results show that our M2MRF outperforms existing feature reassembly operators and achieves better performances and generalization ability than existing methods when combined with HRNetV2.

Learning for retinal image quality assessment with label regularization

Tianjiao Guo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a framework for accurately and reasonably assessing the quality of fundus images based on deep convolutional neural networks. By addressing label ambiguity and regression problems, a dual-path convolutional neural network is designed to extract discriminative features and make decisions. Experimental results show that the method performs well on the largest retinal image quality assessment dataset.

Progressive attention module for segmentation of volumetric medical images

Minghui Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a new attention module called PAM is proposed to identify the most informative slices and recalibrate channelwise feature responses for volumetric medical image segmentation. By combining slice attention, key slice selection, and channel attention, PAM progressively highlights key slices with rich information while suppressing irrelevant slices, improving segmentation accuracy compared to standard 3D CNNs methods and other attention mechanisms with only slight additional costs.

Progressive Multiscale Consistent Network for Multiclass Fundus Lesion Segmentation

Along He et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a progressive multi-scale consistent network (PMCNet) to address two issues in the multi-class segmentation of fundus lesions: the lack of interaction between adjacent feature levels and the conflict between low-level and high-level features. The progressive feature fusion (PFF) block is used to integrate multi-scale features, while the dynamic attention block (DAB) is used to ensure feature consistency. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Disparity-constrained stereo endoscopic image super-resolution

Tianyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The increasing usage of stereo cameras in computer-assisted surgery techniques enables surgeons to have better 3D context of the surgical site in minimally invasive operations. However, the low resolution of stereo endoscopic images due to the limited size of lens and sensors at the confined endoscope tip presents a challenging problem in effectively utilizing stereo information for super-resolution. In this work, a disparity-constrained stereo super-resolution network (DCSSRnet) is proposed to reconstruct images using a stereo image pair. The proposed model shows promising results in enhancing the spatial resolution of stereo endoscopic image pairs, providing informative supervision for image reconstruction.
