The impact of production operating parameters on mechanical and thermophysical characteristics of commercial wood pellets

Nebojsa Manic et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of operational parameters on the mechanical and thermal properties of wood pellets used in heat production. The results show that changes in raw materials and operating parameters can significantly affect the characteristics of wood pellets. It is also discovered that a thin solid layer on the surface of the pellet sample increases its thermal resistance. This layer is formed during the production process due to high-temperature impact and friction.

Effect of Si/Al additives on Cl fate during MSWI fly ash thermal treating process

Guiyun Yang et al.

Summary: SiO2 and Al2O3 are suitable additives for municipal solid waste incineration fly ash melting. The addition of SiO2 or Al2O3 significantly promotes the release of HCl. SiO2 has an obvious effect on reducing Cl percentage in residues, while Al2O3 is more likely to retain Cl in the residues.

An assessment of the impact of natural resources, energy, institutional quality, and financial development on CO2 emissions: Evidence from the B&R nations

Qingquan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study empirically assesses the impact of natural resources, institutional quality, energy use, financial development, and economic growth on CO2 emissions in the Belt and Road countries. The findings suggest that natural resource rents and exports contribute to higher CO2 emissions, while fossil fuel energy use increases emissions and renewable energy helps mitigate pollution. Additionally, per capita income, financial development, and urbanization are linked to increased CO2 emissions, while improvements in institutional quality reduce emissions.

Characterisation of aluminium black dross before and after stepwise salt-phase dissolution in non-aqueous solvents

Keting Hu et al.

Summary: This study utilized various analytical techniques to analyze industrial black dross samples, proposed a method to remove salt components through pre-treatment, and aided in determining minor reactive phases. The results provided best practice guidelines for the industry, addressing gas treatment methods and operational parameters when dealing with compositional variability in black dross.

Release of potassium in association with structural evolution during biomass combustion

Wenhan Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of operational conditions on potassium release during the combustion of wheat straw. Results showed that up to 60% of initial potassium content could be released at temperatures up to 1000 degrees C, with an additional 20% release possible by increasing the heating rate. The study proposed a three-stage potassium release mechanism and highlighted the importance of temperature-dependent release mechanisms for mitigating potassium-induced ash problems during biomass combustion.

Residual and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in fly ash from co-combustion of excess sludge and coal

Yao Tang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the residual and ecological risks of heavy metals in fly ash from co-combustion of municipal excess sludge (ES) and coal. It found that Cu, Zn, and Mn had higher concentrations in the fly ash and most heavy metals were concentrated in fine particles. Despite lower concentration, Cd accounted for the main fraction of ecological risk in the fly ash.

Movement and combustion characteristics of densified rice hull pellets in a fluidized bed combustor at elevated pressures

Zhihao Yang et al.

Summary: Biomass combustion in pressurized oxy-fuel fluidized bed is a promising carbon capture technology, but the characteristics of biomass may lead to poor mixing in industrial FB combustors. The study found that pressure and atmosphere changes do not strongly affect the position distribution probability of densified rice hull pellets in pressurized oxy-fuel combustion, but may affect the distribution of particles on the bed surface and in the splash zone.

Effect of phosphorus-based additives on the sintering characteristics of cornstalk ash

Youjian Zhu et al.

Summary: The addition of Ca(H2PO4)(2)center dot H2O increases the initial melting temperature and improves the sintering behavior of cornstalk ash, while NH4H2PO4 slightly increases the initial ash melting temperature with little influence on sintering characteristics.
