Autophagy and apoptosis mediated nano-copper-induced testicular damage

Helin Chen et al.

Summary: Excessive exposure to nano-copper may induce testicular apoptosis and autophagy through the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, leading to damage in testicular tissues and spermatogenesis. Nano-copper upregulates apoptosis-related and autophagy-related proteins while downregulating others, affecting sperm quality, fructose content, and sex hormone secretion.

Exposure to two-dimensional ultrathin Ti3C2 (MXene) nanosheets during early pregnancy impairs neurodevelopment of offspring in mice

Yixian Wen et al.

Summary: This study found that exposure to Ti3C2 nanosheets had negligible effect on the reproductive ability of maternal mice, but resulted in abnormal neurobehavior and pathological changes in the cerebral hippocampus and cortex in adult offspring. Further studies revealed developmental and functional defects in the placenta, including metabolic function derailment. These findings highlight potential safety concerns associated with Ti3C2 nanosheets, and suggest that future research should focus on long-term effects and prevention strategies.

Limei Yang et al.

Summary: Ti3C2 MXene exposure impairs villus explant extension ability and trophoblast cell functions by inhibiting cell migration and invasion abilities, and enhancing autophagy. Inhibition of autophagy may be a potential therapeutic strategy for alleviating nanoparticle-induced placental toxicity.

Environmental pollutants exposure and male reproductive toxicity: The role of epigenetic modifications

Xuejingping Han et al.

Summary: Male fertility rates have been decreasing in recent decades, with concerns rising about the male reproductive dysfunction caused by environmental pollutants exposure. Epigenetic modifications are believed to play a crucial role in the male reproductive toxicity induced by environmental pollutants, particularly through DNA methylation, histone modifications, and miRNAs. Further studies are needed to explore more types of epigenetic modifications, their interactions, and epidemiological data to address current research gaps and understand the intrinsic links between pollutants-mediated epigenetic regulations and male reproductive-related physiological responses.
