Hyperpigmentation: Looking beyond hydroquinone

Naseem Ahmad Charoo

Summary: Hyperpigmentation is a common skin issue for individuals aged 40-45, and hydroquinone is frequently used for its treatment. However, long-term use of hydroquinone has been linked to cancer risk and exogenous ochronosis. The CARES Act of 2020 has led to significant changes in over-the-counter hydroquinone products, resulting in their withdrawal from the market. This review article explores alternative treatment options and discusses potential new options for managing hyperpigmentation.
