Mycobacterium tuberculosis protein MoxR1 enhances virulence by inhibiting host cell death pathways and disrupting cellular bioenergetics

Neha Quadir et al.

Summary: The study reveals the important role of Mycobacterium tuberculosis MoxR1 protein in regulating host-pathogen interaction and immune system functions. MoxR1 binds to TLR4 in macrophage cells, leading to the release of proinflammatory cytokines. It inhibits autophagy by suppressing ULK1 kinase and induces metabolic reprogramming to dampen host defence.

Antimicrobial-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae can be targeted using inhibitors against evolutionary conservedl-asparaginase

Shubham Vashishtha et al.

Summary: This study validates L-asparaginase of N. gonorrhoeae (NgA) as a new molecular target through structure-based high-throughput screening, molecular dynamics simulations, biophysical, biochemical, and cell viability assays. Three FDA-approved drugs were identified as potential NgA inhibitors and their inhibitory effects were validated through experiments. Targeting NgA can be explored as a combination therapy for controlling N. gonorrhoeae infections.

COVID-19 and tuberculosis: the double whammy of respiratory pathogens

Mohd Shariq et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on tuberculosis (TB) elimination programs, leading to a decrease in TB case notifications and immunizations. The clinical characteristics of TB and COVID-19 are similar, with immune dysregulation being a factor in both diseases. It is important to manage and combat the syndemic of TB and COVID-19.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis Specific Protein Rv1509 Evokes Efficient Innate and Adaptive Immune Response Indicative of Protective Th1 Immune Signature

P. Manjunath et al.

Summary: Studying the unique protein Rv1509 in M.tb, it was found to stimulate innate immune cells, have immunomodulatory functions, and induce immune memory response in vivo experiments. Additionally, Rv1509 also stimulates dendritic cell maturation, induces immune memory response, and promotes Th1 immune response through TLR2-mediated signaling pathway.

Computational modeling and bioinformatic analyses of functional mutations in drug target genes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Pooja Singh et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop an updated database including almost all reported substitutions within Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug target genes and use bioinformatics tools to evaluate the impact of these mutations. They have created a comprehensive online resource named MycoTRAP-DB that connects gene mutations with structural, functional, and pathogenic implications. This integrated platform allows for comprehensive analysis and prioritization of SNPs for the development of improved antimycobacterial medications.
