Stratigraphy, Paleogeography and Depositional Setting of the K-Mg Salts in the Zechstein Group of Netherlands-Implications for the Development of Salt Caverns

Alexandre Pichat

Summary: This study updated the lithostratigraphy of the Zechstein group in the Netherlands by including the distribution of K-Mg salts. The results provided insights into the spatial distribution and thickness variations of K-Mg rich intervals in different evaporite cycles, as well as the hydrological conditions influencing the Zechstein stratigraphic architecture. The study also developed risk maps assessing the risk of encountering K-Mg salts in salt pillows or salt diapirs for the development of salt caverns.

Early Cretaceous evolution of the Tromso Basin, SW Barents Sea, Norway

Bereke Kairanov et al.

Summary: This study presents a revised Early Cretaceous structural model for the Tromso Basin, involving oblique extension and formation of an intra-basinal transpressional transfer zone, explaining the compressional faulting during overall extension in the SW Barents Sea. Basement heterogeneity played an important role in localizing strain, with the study estimating approximately 35 km of crustal extension in the SW Barents Sea margin. The thinner crust below the Tromso Basin compared to neighboring basins suggests oblique rifting, highlighting the importance of detailed and regionally integrated analysis for understanding the evolution of rifted basins.

Salt tectonics and controls on halokinetic-sequence development of an exposed deepwater diapir: The Bakio Diapir, Basque-Cantabrian Basin, Pyrenees

Eduard Roca et al.

Summary: This study evaluates growth strata adjacent to the Bakio Diapir in the Basque Pyrenees, providing insights into the development and evolution of salt structures in deepwater environments. Analysis of multiple datasets reveals the geometry and influencing factors of halokinetic sequences in deepwater settings.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Risk Assessment of the Large-Scale Hydrogen Storage in Salt Caverns

Maria Portarapillo et al.

Summary: This study conducted a risk assessment for high-pressure hydrogen storage in salt caverns, considering the impact of bacterial contamination on gas composition. The results showed that unconfined vapor cloud explosion (UVCE) caused by hydrogen leakage is the most frequent outcome.

Tectono-stratigraphic development of a salt-influenced rift margin: Halten Terrace, offshore Mid-Norway

Gavin M. Elliott et al.

Summary: Pre-rift salt controls the structural style within rifts by decoupling sub- and supra-salt faults, affecting the footwall uplift and erosion, as well as sediment supply to downdip basins. The presence of a pre-rift salt layer can suppress the topographic expression of the footwall, facilitating footwall collapse and limiting sediment supply. Variable topography along rift flanks can trap sediment, leading to sediment starvation in basins closer to the rift axis.
