Orogenic gold deposits as nonlinear systems: Nonlinear analysis of data

Alison Ord et al.

Summary: The formation and determination of orogenic gold systems remain enigmatic due to their multiscale and nonlinear processes. A nonlinear dynamical analysis is conducted to extract the dynamics of the underlying nonlinear and multiscale physical and chemical processes. The analysis reveals strong spatial correlations of gold with carbonates and weaker correlations with phengitic micas and chlorite. The study also shows that all components of the system belong to the same dynamical attractor, indicating a same physical-chemical system. The probability distributions for mineral abundance reflect the details of the ways in which the systems grow.

Structural Controls on Alteration Stages at the Chuquicamata Copper-Molybdenum Deposit, Northern Chile

Jorge Skarmeta

Summary: The study in Chuquicamata indicates that the local stress control involved in the emplacement of porphyry copper systems is fundamentally related to variable and progressive heat energy release associated with igneous and hydrothermal activity, and to the elastic stresses derived from uplift and unloading, rather than to a constant far-field tectonic stress. The continuous local stress fluctuations led to bulk stress readjustments and cyclical stress-fluid interactions for local fault reactivation, damage zone modification, brecciation, permeability creation/destruction, and fluid focusing, as well as the discharge of hydrothermal fluids throughout the evolution of the system.

A new model for the optimal structural context for giant porphyry copper deposit formation

Jose Piquer et al.

Summary: An improved understanding of the most favorable structural settings for the emplacement of porphyry-type deposits is necessary for successful exploration. The proposed new model integrates structural data and the geometry of magmatic-hydrothermal systems to provide insights into the formation process of these deposits, impacting conceptual mineral exploration.
