Extragalactic fast X-ray transient candidates discovered by Chandra (2000-2014)

J. Quirola-Vasquez et al.

Summary: This study reports the detection of 14 extragalactic fast X-ray transient (FXRT) candidates using a systematic search method in the Chandra Source Catalog. The candidates can be divided into two groups based on their proximity to the Milky Way. Additionally, three distant FXRT candidates exhibit similar spectral features to a previously reported FXRT.

Discovery of Three Candidate Magnetar-powered Fast X-Ray Transients from Chandra Archival Data

Dacheng Lin et al.

Summary: Three new fast X-ray transients (FXTs) were discovered from a preliminary search over Chandra archival data. Similar to CDF-S XT2, these newly discovered FXTs are strong candidates for magnetar-powered X-ray transients resulting from binary neutron star mergers.

Probing for the host galaxies of the fast X-ray transients XRT 000519 and XRT 110103

D. Eappachen et al.

Summary: In the past few years, around 30 similar extragalactic fast X-ray transients (FXRTs) have been discovered in Chandra and XMM-Newton data. Their origin is still uncertain, but this study uses optical observations to find extended sources and potential host galaxies for two FXRTs, excluding a supernova shock breakout scenario for one of them.

Shock Breakout in Three-dimensional Red Supergiant Envelopes

Jared A. Goldberg et al.

Summary: Using Athena++, a 3D radiation-hydrodynamic calculation of the radiative breakout of a red supergiant's outer envelope shows key differences in brightness and duration compared to a 1D model. The 3D structure of the envelope leads to lower-density shock breakouts and large-scale fluctuations in density that cause the shock to break out at different radii and times. These intrinsic 3D properties result in longer shock breakout durations and lower predicted luminosities.

Chemical and stellar properties of early-type dwarf galaxies around the Milky Way

Vasily Belokurov et al.

Summary: Early-type dwarf galaxies are the end-points of low-mass galaxy evolution, and their primeval stellar populations provide a unique laboratory for studying physical conditions on small scales. The diversity of star-formation and chemical-enrichment histories in nearby dwarf galaxies has been observed.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 is the early installment of the third data release from the Gaia project, providing astrometry and photometry for 1.8 billion sources brighter than magnitude 21, along with radial velocities from Gaia DR2. The data processing precision and homogeneity have significantly improved compared to the previous version, with additional information on celestial bodies and an updated celestial reference frame.

On the Binary Neutron Star Post-merger Magnetar Origin of XRT 210423

Shunke Ai et al.

Summary: XRT 201423 is a possible X-ray transient from a magnetar formed through a binary neutron star merger. The data is generally consistent with this model, setting constraints on the magnetar's surface magnetic field and ellipticity. Distance limits and the absence of an optical counterpart provide additional information about the source.

Steve Schulze et al.

Summary: This study presents the photometric properties and mass distributions of host galaxies of various types of core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe). Differences in preferences for galaxy properties were found among different SN classes, with Type Ib/c SNe preferring galaxies with higher masses and metallicities. H-poor superluminous supernovae (SLSNe) were scarce in galaxies with high masses, requiring environments with low metallicities and younger stellar populations as progenitors.

HiPERCAM: a quintuple-beam, high-speed optical imager on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias

V. S. Dhillon et al.

Summary: HiPERCAM is a portable quintuple-beam optical imager that can record images simultaneously with its five CCD cameras, allowing for both deep long-exposure imaging and high-speed imaging. Utilizing frame-transfer devices cooled thermo-electrically, it can achieve detections of astronomical sources at high precision. By combining HiPERCAM with the world's largest optical telescope, it can enhance the effective field of view and achieve detections of astronomical sources with high limits.
