The simulated catalogue of optical transients and correlated hosts (SCOTCH)

Martine Lokken et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel data-driven methodology is developed to simulate a time-domain sky that includes detailed modelling of the probability density function for multiple transient classes conditioned on host galaxy properties. This simulated catalogue can be used for photometric classification and analysis, as well as facilitating timely follow-up of rare and peculiar explosions.

The Dark Energy Survey supernova program: cosmological biases from supernova photometric classification

M. Vincenzi et al.

Summary: Cosmological analyses of supernova samples need to consider contamination from different types of supernovae. By analyzing the Dark Energy Survey supernova sample, it is found that the contamination from non-Ia supernovae is between 0.8% and 3.5%, with a classification efficiency of 97.7% to 99.5%. The biases on the dark energy equation-of-state, w, are less than 0.008.

SNIa Cosmology Analysis Results from Simulated LSST Images: From Difference Imaging to Constraints on Dark Energy

B. O. Sanchez et al.

Summary: The Vera Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is expected to process around 10^6 transient detections per night. Understanding the detection efficiency, magnitude limits, artifact contamination levels, and biases in the selection and photometry is critical for precise measurements of cosmological parameters and rates.

The Pantheon plus Analysis: Cosmological Constraints

Dillon Brout et al.

Summary: This study presents constraints on cosmological parameters based on 1701 light curves of 1550 distinct Type Ia supernovae. By increasing the sample size, improving systematic uncertainty treatments, and adding cross-calibrated photometric systems, the cosmological constraining power has been significantly improved. The results indicate a consistent cosmological constant and provide precise measurements on the evolution of dark energy.

Measuring Cosmological Parameters with Type Ia Supernovae in redMaGiC Galaxies

R. Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel approach is proposed to address the three critical challenges faced by current and future cosmological analyses with Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). By using SN Ia samples with host galaxies from the redMaGiC galaxy catalog, the use of photometric redshifts instead of spectroscopic redshifts reduces biases and allows for a more standardized population in redMaGiC galaxies.

The LSST DESC DC2 Simulated Sky Survey

Bela Abolfathi et al.

Summary: The simulated sky survey for the second data challenge (DC2) serves as preparation for the analysis of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) by the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (LSST DESC). This modeling effort emphasizes interconnectivity across multiple science domains in a way that has not been tried before, covering a wide range of aspects from N-body simulation to image processing with LSST-like observations. The DC2 sky survey allows LSST DESC to develop analysis pipelines, test image processing software, and explore new scientific ideas in both static and time domain cosmology.

Binning is Sinning (Supernova Version): The Impact of Self-calibration in Cosmological Analyses with Type Ia Supernovae

Dillon Brout et al.

Summary: Recent cosmological analyses of Type Ia supernovae have shown that using unbinned and unsmoothed covariance matrices can improve the precision of systematic error budgets. The ability of self-calibration is hindered by binning and smoothing in redshift space, but it presents a tremendous opportunity for upcoming analyses of photometrically classified samples.

Dark Energy Survey Year 3 results: redshift calibration of the weak lensing source galaxies

J. Myles et al.

Summary: Determining the redshifts of galaxies observed by wide-field photometric experiments is crucial for mapping the matter density with gravitational lensing. This study validates the assumptions made for assigning weak lensing source galaxies from the Dark Energy Survey and combines information from multiple likelihood functions to estimate the redshift distributions with calibrated uncertainties.

Cosmology requirements on supernova photometric redshift systematics for the Rubin LSST and Roman Space Telescope

Ayan Mitra et al.

Summary: Research shows that accurate redshifts are crucial for cosmological studies of millions of type Ia supernovae discovered during upcoming wide area surveys. Machine learning can help quantify the requirements on systematics in the photometric vs true redshift relation. Certain redshift ranges are particularly sensitive and require spectroscopic follow-up to reduce cosmological bias caused by systematics.
